GOAL: Predict which notable* figures will die on/between January 1 and December 31, 2021, Eastern Time.
Produce a maximum of 50 names, to be PM'ed to me (NOT posted here) before the ball drops in Times Square (NYC) at midnight on New Years (i.e., 12AM ET, January 1, 2021). The BB's default timestamp will determine entry time, but I often post after midnight so the west coast has a little extra time.
*It's assumed that all notable figures will have an entry, or be mentioned in an entry, at Google, Wikipedia or another legit source which you may have to prove.
Rules:
1) PLEASE alphabetize your list of 50 names by LAST name (regardless of profession), either in the form of FIRSTNAME LASTNAME -or- LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, in *1* column of names.
2) If it's not obvious who the person is for most people, after the name please add why they're notable. For example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist" (Sorry, he's already dead). In addition, you may or may not choose to include the person's current age; for example: "Douglas Fraser, trade unionist (91)"
3) If you submit your list days before Midnight, January 1st, 2021, and someone on your list dies before 2021, you should substitute the person with another and resubmit your list (by the deadline). If you do not resubmit your list, and the person died in 2020, the person will obviously NOT count for 2021.
4) a) Thou Shalt Not Kill (anyone on your list); b) criminals subject to the Death Penalty or anyone kidnapped or held hostage in 2020 won't count -- unless they die of natural causes; c) "Dead" means permanently dead, not later revived, nor put in animated suspension, or any induced or natural coma starting before 2021 begins; d) do not edit Wikipedia with false death information.
Everyone's lists will be updated unofficially throughout the year, but year-end audits should be performed to determine the final winner sometime shortly after December 31, 2021. YOU are responsible for your own audit at years' end.
(The next post will contain all participants' lists for easy reference, sometime on Jan 1st)

With only a couple hours until 2021, I only have lists from the following (besides myself): XDCX, DE NIRO, BAM, Don Marco, Mikey
While I usually will allow a list to come in a little late, lists that aren't updated before I go to bed may have their lists from 2020 ride (with fewer than 50 names)

Alexi Laiho - singer/guitarist for Children of Bodom, Bodom After Midnight & others passed away at 41. Far too young. While not a household name, Alexi was highly respected as a musician/songwriter in the metal world and Children of Bodom had great success in Europe, They didn't too to bad in the USA either, often playing 2500 cap theaters in many markets.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, actress Tanya Roberts did not die on Sunday, according to a new statement obtained by TMZ.
Roberts’ rep Mike Pingel explains that Roberts’ husband Lance was contacted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday morning to inform him that she is still alive. Lance had believed that Roberts was dead on Sunday night, at which point he passed the news along to Pingel, who confirmed it to the media. Roberts, 65, was hospitalized in Los Angeles after collapsing on Christmas Eve and was placed on a ventilator.

I remember many years ago (late 1971 to be exact), when Maurice Chevalier was hospitalized for what would prove to be the final time, his death was prematurely reported by the media - even going so far as to quote what were (purportedly) his last words.
Mark Twain once famously said, "The report of my death has been grossly exaggerated."

The legendary Sonny Fox died January 24 at age 95 from COVID-related pneumonia.
Baby-boomers growing up in the NYC area in the 1950's and 1960's knew the name - he hosted Wonderama, Just For Fun and other game shows. He was also a philanthropist, and I believe at one time he was president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He was from Brooklyn and attended my neighborhood high school - James Madison HS. He was quite active and vigorous well into his nineties.
I just noticed this on the Internet. I don't believe it got any mention on any of our local newscasts here. Damn shame. In my youth I became unbeatable at "Simon Says" because of him.
R.I.P. Sonny Fox.

Hal Holbrook passed away. I remember him playing Lincoln a long time ago but the articles talk about him portraying Mark Twain.
Hal Holbrook was unique in that he performed his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight! for over sixty years, on and off. It was made into a TV special on CBS back in 1967 and you can find it on YouTube. He finally retired it when he was 92. In the beginning, back in the late 1950's he was in his early 30's and used to spend three hours painting his face to appear to be Twain at 70. Over time, he used less and less makeup until he eventually used just a false nose along with a moustache and eyebrows. His own white hair took the place of the wig and he certainly didn't need the age paint anymore.
I am (or was) a theatrical makeup artist and I've been teaching makeup at college level for over 40 years. One of my lessons uses Holbrook's Twain makeup as an example of how to create the illusion of aging on a young performer for live theatre. I've written quite an interesting paper on this, if I may be allowed a bit of immodesty.

I listened to him since he first emerged on national radio. I certainly didn't agree with many of his statements and really didn't care for him. However, his one redeeming value was that, like me, he got his start in Pittsburgh and was a die-hard Steelers fan.

Nor did anyone pick actor Henry Darrow who passed away March 14th at age 87. I remember him from the 1960's TV Western series "The High Chaparral," though his career lasted more than half a century including roles on the soap opera "Santa Barbara" and Disney's "The New Zorro" series.

Two deaths worth mentioning (and I know I'm showing my age):
Gloria Henry died on April 3rd at age 98. She was the mother, Alice Mitchell, on the classic Dennis the Menace TV series from 1959-1963.
Also, Frank Jacobs died April 5th at age 91. If the name isn't immediately familiar, Jacobs wrote just about all the wonderful song and poetry parodies for Mad Magazine in their glory days. As a matter of fact, a couple of weeks ago, I regaled Signora V. with a rendition of "Hello Deli" from memory. (Now I'm really dating myself!)
Here it is - from memory (sung to "Hello Dolly")
Hello, deli, This is Joe, deli, Would you please send up a nice corned beef on rye? A box of Ritz, deli, And some Schlitz, deli, Some chopped liver and a sliver of your Apple pie.
Turkey legs, deli, Hard boiled eggs, deli, With tomatoes and potatoes You French fry, oh...
Please don't be late, deli, 'Cause I can't wait, deli, Deli - without breakfast I will die!

Signor V.: within the last couple of months, I tracked down two issues of Mad Magazine that contain Jacobs songs that I remember verbatim over 50 years later:
(Sung to "Grand Old Flag")
She's a mean old bag, She's a nasty old hag, And forever she's filled us with hate. But we treat her sweet, And kiss her feet, And tell her we think that she's great.
Let her curse at us, We will not raise a fuss, When she starts in to scream and nag. For we all are counting what we'll get, From the will of that mean old bag.
It's uncanny how they stick with you.
"All of these men were good listeners; patient men."
I remember another one Frank Jacobs wrote to the same tune:
It's a grand old smog, It's a low lying smog, You can tell by the smell and the pall, Though it clouds the skies And it burns our eyes, It means there's employment for all!
'Cause it comes, you see, From some great factory, Where there's never an idle cog, So, let's preserve our way of life And give thanks for that grand old smog!

Former Vice President of Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale has passed away at the age of 93. Crazy to think that both Jimmy and his wife would outlive him. RIP
Actor and stuntman Felix Silla died April 16, age 84.
If the name isn't immediately familiar, he was in the original Star Trek series, the Buck Rogers series, played Ewoks and many other roles, often uncredited. He was probably best known for playing "Cousin Itt" in the original 1960's Addams Family TV series.

In addition to performing his own material, the icon was famously a writer for Richard Pryor.
From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No blackjack no dope deals, no nothing. A nickel bag gets sold in the park, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

52 pickup, The Generals Daughter, Hoodlum, Deep Cover, Tales from the Hood, The Legend of 1900, are some of the movies I can remember him playing in. He was always one of the best supporting actors out there.

Comedian/actor Jackie Mason died today at age 93. I don't think anyone picked him.
Here's a Jackie Mason story told to me by the late Signora V. (I), who witnessed it first-hand: Back in the 1980's, she was sitting in a Manhattan cafe/diner and noticed Jackie Mason sitting in a booth, talking in low tones to an attractive middle-aged woman. She couldn't hear what was being said, but suddenly the woman slapped Mason's face, stood up and loudly proclaimed, "I am not that kind of girl!" before angrily walking out.

A couple people (SC & DP) picked him. Funny story, SV! My mom loved Jackie Mason, and we all thought he was hilarious. My folks were thrilled a number of years ago running into and chatting with him at a diner/restaurant (that wasn't my mom in your story, though -- this was in Florida )....
PS - I should be caught up on the updates to the main list.... sorry I've been so MIA
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol

Actress Markie Post died on August 7 at age 70. She was probably best known for playing public defender Christine Sullivan on the TV series Night Court. She was also on The Fall Guy with Lee Majors.
Also on August 7, actress Jane Withers died at age 95. A former child actress, she was also known for playing "Josephine the Plumber" in TV commercials for Comet cleanser in the 1960's and 1970's.
I was the only one who picked her.

Pat Hitchcock, actress and the only child of director Alfred Hitchcock died August 9 at age 93. She had small roles in three of her father's movies.
Also on August 9, actor Alex Cord died at age 88. You might remember him from the TV series "Airwolf" but I particularly remember him from the 1968 Mob movie "The Brotherhood" where he played the younger brother of Kirk Douglas. Due to the film's failure at the box office, Paramount was reluctant to tackle another movie dealing with organized crime until GF1.

Charlie Watts was, indeed, a true legend. The Stones will never be the same without him. As someone who remembers the great groups from the 1960's when they first hit it big, I definitely feel like a part of me has been lost, or at least, diminished. What I found truly worthy of respect was that he had been married to the same woman for over 50 years. In the world of showbiz - particularly Rock & Roll music, this is a rarity. He will be missed.
We've also lost:
Martial arts legend and actor Sonny Chiba, age 82. He died on August 19 of COVID.
Another legend: Country music's Tom T. Hall, age 85, on August 20. Probably his best-known mainstream song was "Harper Valley P.T.A." but I'll always prefer "I Like Beer" because, well... I like beer.
Don Everly, the last surviving Everly Brother, age 84 on August 21. A musical influence beyond description. Yeah, Phil and Don didn't always get along (to put it mildly), but what an imprint they made on music!
Rod Gilbert, age 80, on August 19. Another one who rightly deserves the title "legend" in the world of hockey. Always in the hearts of NY Rangers fans.
R.I.P. to all.

That's a sad one -- just a couple months ago I got his autograph via GalaxyCon (they do virtual signings which has been great during covid -- all real, because they have free live video Q&As anyone can join in on (if it's a virtual event, otherwise they're done during real events that have started back up), and you can get your autographs personalized to you (altho I chose not to for this one))...I would LOVE to get Betty White to sign this as well -- too late for Gavin MacLeod who just passed May 29 )....

It's crazy how many people are OD'ing these days. A friend of mine is currently recovering after a fentanyl laced cocaine overdose. People have no idea what they're getting when so much is cut with fentanyl.
RIP MKW
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

The great French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo died September 6 at age 88. He virtually personified French New Wave cinema in the 50's and 60's.
Also, actor/comedian Art Metrano died September 8, age 84. He was known for his stand-up act as well as appearances in the "Police Academy" film series. His career was severely curtailed in 1989 when a devastating accident temporarily left him a near-quadriplegic. He later turned his experience into a one-man show that he performed from a motorized wheelchair.
Nobody picked either one of them.

Daaaamn!! +7 (Ward was already counted) for a total of 19 Granted, they were all centenarians, but still...... (Don Marco had one of those, too.)
Now's a good time to remind everyone to audit their lists between now and the New Year! Start on your 2022 lists and PM them to me by 1/1/22 (new post coming soon)....

Robert Michael Nesmith was born Dec. 30, 1942, in Houston, Texas, the only child of Warren and Bette Nesmith.
His parents divorced when he was 4 and his mother often worked two jobs, as a secretary and painter, to support her son and herself. It was that latter job that inspired her to whip up a typewriter correction fluid called Liquid Paper in her kitchen blender. By the mid-1970s it had made her a fortune, which she eventually left to her son and to nonprofit foundations she endowed to promote women in business and the arts.
Actress Sally Ann Howes has died at age 91. She played opposite Dick Van Dyke in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and had a long career in theatre and television. I was the only one who picked her.
