I am finding this Mazza to be very truthful, and accurate in his recitation of events from the Colombo war.

He speaks well and lays out the facts in a pretty accurate way IMO.

He's definitely one of the more believable former street people giving interviews

Too bad Vlad is a moron. You see the look on Larry's face when Vlad said Vic Orena sent his brother Mickey Brown and sons Willie Boy and Michael to disappear 15 Persicos?

Bear in mind, Mazza was only 17.

When Persico admitted to being a made guy he broke Omerta, after such Wild Bill was running around the streets of brooklyn, with paperwork calling Persico a RAT.

In the early 1980's that was very taboo.

That was the excuse the Orena faction needed to make its move.

His book is one of the few I never read. Since you guys are speaking so well of it, I may have to get a copy.

Another book I never bothered with was the Philip Carlo book on Casso. I could hardly get past the first few pages. Almost total disinformation and bullshit. Not worth my time.

I was also very hesitant to read Larry Mazza's book because his story is so well known that I thought i wouldn't learn anything. But the book is really good. It's well written and it has a lot of details on the Colombo war.

Philip Carlo's book on Gaspipe Casso is really bad. Probably the worst Mafia book i've read. It could have been a great book given the subject but Carlo has no writing skills and was too close to Casso so he basically wrote what Casso wanted. he didn't do any fact checking and the book has no structure. What a waste.

Maybe just half a moron. The last half about the Columbo War was good. The first half, in my opinion, was just to much about his relationship with Linda.

That's the thing with Mazza. His story with Linda Scarpa has been much publicized and you forget that he was a prominent player in the Colombo war and witnessed first hand the activities of Greg Scarpa, a fascinating character in the Mob.

I've watched the itw. It's quite good although Vlad isn't the best interviewer for this subject.

Don't waste your time with that Casso book. Another good book is Peter Lance's Deal With the Devil.

Haven't checked out the interview yet but I would definitely recommend Mazza's book. Great insight into mob life in the 80s and the Colombo family.

Mazza's book is very good, he doesn't come off as a bull shitter or embellisher in the least bit. The book blew away my expectations. The Casso book was a great read despite Carlos terrible writing and kissing of Casso's ass. The only reason I say that is because of all the stuff Casso was involved with. He was in the bypass gang, had dirty cops, was involved in countless murders, went on the run for a few years, his friendship with Burt Kaplan, the involvement with the Russians, Gemini twins, etc.

If you want to read something more well written and without the random of Carlo on Casso I suggest the Brotherhoods. Now that was a well written and researched masterpiece.

The best books on the mob bar none. Since it’s not 100% Cosa Nostra I didn’t include it but Hitman by Carr and Johnny Montorano could also be on here

Watched the latest interview. I don't buy a word. Mazza claims both Junior Persico and his son Allie Boy knew for 20 years that Greg Scarpa was a rat, and that Allie Boy told him that himself. Has anyone heard this?

I think Mazza just took it the wrong way. Like when the papers finally broke the news about Scarpa a hundred wiseguys probably made the statement "I knew it, I knew he was a rat. My dad and I knew it for 20 years he was a rat". Not like ,"Oh yeah Scarpas a rat. We've know for 20 years. No big deal".
