The picture you paint of today's Mob is right on. You have to wonder: how do they stay in business? The answer is in your first paragraph: a reflection of society. As long as "civilians" want to buy drugs, get stuff that fell off the back of a truck, indulge degenerate gambling habits, patronize prostitutes, and otherwise break the law, they're going to be served by organized crime.

Bingo! I totally agree. I think it will continue. Organized crime will always be around. We may not recognize it as an entity as in years past. But I do agree that the Mafia, and fringe groups that satellite it will remain for the foreseeable future.

It's amazing that in the NY/NJ area there is still a structure and hierarchy with 6 crime families in place.

This is an actual picture of Lisa. Unlike "The Other Guy", she isn't hiding her identity. And why would you when you look like a total fox? She doesn't look like Lana, but she could definitely be a mix between Rita and Marilyn Monroe.

The mob in NY Is rebuilding. They are nowhere near their former glory, but the Genoveses and the Gambinos remain very powerful entities.

Ralphie,

How so? Just saying they're powerful doesn't make them so. Provide some more information please to support your claim.

My claim? All you need to do is go through the indictments of the last 10 years. Do you even read indictments?

It does seem like posting a members photo without their consent is a bit too much.

Getting back on track, to me the biggest eye opener in the mob today is how different operations are between the U.S. mafia and the mob in Toronto/Montreal. Up there, murder is still a primary option in solving problems. Reading the Andrew Scoppa excerpts on the other site, it's amazing how many hits were performed not just out of vengeance, but also out of greed. Whacking 'friends' so you can take over their operations is still a constant up there. So much treachery. And they get away with it.

Ralphie,

Your passive aggressive attempt to drag me into your juvenile back and forth is not going to succeed. However, your response to my question was predicable, no articulate response and a sarcastic closing comment. Have a wonderful New Years!

You seemed to be taking a shot at me. I apologize if you weren't. Most experts seem to believe that the mafia in NY is doing well compared to other crime groups in the area. If you look at the latest indictments, you can see the difference. They are still involved in labor racketeering, gambling, loansharking, extortion, most of those traditional rackets. What has also helped them a lot lately is the fact that there's been fewer eyes on them since 9/11.

People think that in 2021 the cant kill ... they can they just have to do it right ... not like the days of old and they need to do it . And there are ways around forensics but the people that know are the people coming after them . They need to get it together or it will unravel more and more because there is zero threat.

They need security real security and they need to be trained right there with lie detectors..... what boss wants to sit in the joint for 50 plus.

The rackets that take threats and beating needs to be rethought... this is going to sound horrible because LCN is full of horrible people but they need to take a page out of the cartel and go after family because the old rules are not working.

Just like the old days when you were clipped for dealing drugs they need to be shelved for using cell phones ect.

The bosses need to rotate or something similar like west side possibly even skippers in some cases to keep even the soldiers guessing.

These guys need to be watched by a crew that just handles security and that crew needs to be paid with everyone kicking up to keep the family safe. The thing about security is the feds cant fuck with them unless they kill members .

Pretty sure the west side is already doing some of these things.

I know saying taking a page out of the cartel book sounds horrible but if they all don’t want to self explode they must put a very serious plan together.

Most of these guys are bragging on the street before there even on record.... it’s ridiculous what has become

Get rid of all the cell phones . These bosses are just sitting ducks .

Law--whether prosecution or defense--is a competitive business: it's about who wins and who loses. Selwyn Raab, in "The Five Families," concluded that, after Rudy Giuliani successfully prosecuted the Commission case, US Attorneys around the country fell over themselves prosecuting Mafiosi under RICO so they could have their share of the glory. The FBI was right there with them, seeking glory. But, after 9/11, a lot of those resources were refocused on terrorists, which allowed the Mob to regroup.

Any reply or ???s..Lisa? I think u lost this thread somewheres...

U asked me a question...

The Sous Chef thing is interesting...any particular type of cuisine?

Boy r u quick.....I specialize in Northern & Sicilian Italian..but can @ least make 1 dish from any continent on the globe..It's called "Fusion"...I've worked in a REAL German rest...a REAL Cajun rest..a REAL French rest..& multiple bullshit American joints when I was a kid..Ive been doing food (making a paycheck) since I was 15...1978..U do the math...Polish , Turkish & any eastern European country...Russian or Isreali ( Borscht) ..Whatever part of the globe someone needs ...I @ least can contribute...I rarely eat American shit...always looking 4 the best new adventure but unfortunatly that is impossible due 2 the pandemic..Turkish Sambal marinated lamb kabobs over hot coconut coals 2 go 2 nite ...who knows whats in store 4 2 morrow nite...If u wanna see some of my pre-Pandemic work..U can google MOSHULU.COM....panoramaristorante.com..Got my major accolades there TV appearances..Nominee 4 " New Chef in Rising" ..James Beard semi -finalist...google "Striped Bass" , where as I have personally fed Bruce Willis & Demi Moore..Harrison Ford..Tom Hanks & Gov. Ed Rendell..along w/ many mob dudes ....I worked in an upscale joint w/ a unknown partner /owner known back in 98 ...well , he was known back then , but we were told 2 Fuggettiboutit..his name was Joey Merlino...he grew up w/ the proprietor...the place was called "Paradigm" @3rd & Chestnut....Joey didn't want 2 wait in line 4 the bathroom..so he came in the small kitchen w/ his gorillas & proceeded 2 piss in the mop sink!! What an asshole I thought 2 my 34 yr. old self" This guy has a problem... specially since I knew some of the old guard of Scarfo's old regime..Joey didn't recognize me yet from the old days when he was a teen..but later he knew I was friendly w/ some of the older dudes who ran book in Chester Co. under Big Santo Idone....Fukin' Joey was a purse snatchin' lil' punk riding on his dads coatails when I knew him ,,,,A little horse jockey.!! Yes..believe it or not....O.K. I've ran my mouth enough...

Hoodlum, that's very impressive! Chilean sea bass is actually one of my favorite dishes. I like how you emphasize REAL because there is a difference. Out of all of the dishes you've ever made...what is your favorite dish to make and what is your favorite dish to eat? What do you think about cold beet soup? Do you like RedFish and have you ever been to NOLA?

FWIW: Having a "little" experience in the Biz, I can safely say that a Sous Chef with your diverse experience and abilities is way up the food chain for Chefs! Congratulazioni

While I think the mafia will eventually become even weaker then it is now, I don't think it will ever fully disappear. I can see the 5 families being whittled down to 2-3. The Genovese+Luccheses and the Gambinos+Bonanno+Colombos.

They could also relax the rules for made members. It may even be like that now where only an Italian father is needed (I know there have already been members with non Italian mothers being made like Jr Gotti).

There are always going to be Italian men who want to join that life.
