I’m wondering why Luisi and those guys were able to be made in Philadelphia while being from Boston. I couldn’t imagine that being approved by anyone or if it was there had to be a understanding between Boston and phily. I know he wasn’t very well liked in Boston by anyone.

Luisi couldn't get made in Boston, so he tried to buy his way into the Philly family. When Ralph Natale was locked up in 1998, Joey Merlino sent a message to the Genovese family through Pete Caprio asking for permission to induct the Boston guys. The Genoveses said no, but Merlino made Luisi and his crew anyway

You might know better but... I think they do as they please cause if ny said no and they didn't listen probably would of heard more about it. I remember around that time people were talking about going to Boston from SP. Not the other way around like Phil leotardo said Boston is scranton with clams. Lmao. Maybe not now so much.

I’ve been asking the same question how him and guys like Vetere are made with Philly. The only thing I can think of was that it has more to do with Philly having a little bit a ground in this area rather than the ability of the guys they inducted. Meaning it doesn’t like seem the guys who make up that crew were sort after by the Patriarcas or Genovese. Maybe the Genovese said no so they wouldn’t have them operating in there back yard?

Ya I don’t know there’s not a whole lot on the subject but I think there would have been a bigger deal about it if they didn’t have a agreement. Also I don’t think New England really wanted them they were not the brightest crew out there and not very well liked

Ya I agree nobody liked they Luisi and those guys in Medford, revere,East Boston, north end ext so I couldn’t have seen New England really Caring About them being made any were else. Also I don’t think then being made was recognized by any one else Joey merlino probably just did it for the money

It's always about money. I got the feeling at that time that guys in your area needed some backing and wanted people from Philly to use as muscle. What was the condition of people up there at that time? Were numbers low? Internal war going on? How affiliated are Providence and Boston? Is it a love hate thing like NY and Philly? Around the same time I recall the neighborhood saying Ny was coming to Philly and there was guys on every corner ready to protect our neighborhood. Maybe I misspoke with last post but It just dawned on me this morning. I was just starting to understand things at that time so recollection is hazy.

@Andra I think at the time when was Philly was trying to induct them, New England was in rough shape. So it probably wasn't a priority at that time.

At the time New England had been a major target of law enforcement and were getting a lot of heat. But also they had a lot of power in the area still and a decent amount of young guys and asociates coming up. So it definitely wasn’t there priority you are right but also the Luisis wanted to be made so badly they went to philly and paid them and I’m guessing they weren’t the first family he asked. Also your right if the Luisis wanted to do anything illegal they needed backing or to be made and that wasn’t going to happen in New England. The area they were running around had to many rackets already for them to make any noise with out being made

All comes down to $$$ with this one. Luisi got no respect in Boston, so he went to Philly and bought his way in through Merlino.

I’m pretty sure Joey and his guys only care about one thing and one thing only - Money.

You can pay to get straightened out by Joey and his guys - I am 99.9% sure.

His family was no stranger to headlines in the North End in the 90's. HIs father, son, and cousin murdered in broad daylight at the 99 in Charlestown. His two cousins , the Pepicelli brothers, who I've read were part of the Philly Boston crew, went away for manslaughter after another broad daylight shooting in the North End.

Funny you mention that the son and father lived down the street from me my father siad the actually seemed like good guys. And also it just shows that the luisi weren’t very respected.

The families have gone back a while and work closely today, Guglielmetti and Borgesi did time together and are very close today

cm, your lumping the 'luisis' (as you say) in with this jerkoff bobby luisi. yes he was same family and son..but bobby sr, roman ricky etal were not very close to jr. even if you just read the paperwork in clementes case, you may see that there were insinuations that jr was on their (clemente)side in the arguements. i wouldnt go that far, but he certainly wasnt with the old man and the people who died and the one who lived,..that being said about the old man etal and being respected..maybe not so much respected..but the old man and the kids and nephews had the northend shaking in the mid 90s. they opened joe black like a quahog, made guys brother, no one said a peep. the reason why damien and his father went as far as they did was because they were terrified that they were gonna get hurt or die, so maybe they werent rspected, but they were certainly feared and that group could give two fucks about a button or not. so please, separate bobby jr from the rest. the peps fell in with junior after the others died, and have balls, but arent really street kids.....on another front, the jerkoff rat luisi is suppose to be on the stupid alite/boriello podcast, and he took tanso with him, tanso who never had a rep as a rat, but apparently, if hes running with rats then........

regarding the whole how luisi ended up in philly etc, as is stated. boston pretty much everyone was gone by 1998 when they started talking.. a guy (an italian but someone who did not run with the italians ever, not from those neighborhoods) had done some time with ralph and joey, bobby was shunned up here by whoever was left except for one guy who tried to no avail, i think they reached out to ny first, maybe lucchese, who said we cant help but we wont hurt you either..this other guy took him to them down there and as the old saying goes..money makes the blind man see....bobby jr was never a guy that belonged, ever..now some of the others maybe, but not him. wasnt a bad kid before he ratted, but no gangster...

The structure of the Commission had broken down by then. You could make whoever by then. Joey made Natale from Associate to Soldier to Boss not long after Ralph got out. It's always nice to seek out alliances and go through proper channels but at the end of the day a mob family is like it's own country. As long as you handle things within your own Family no one can say nothing.

About as far from a sanctioned Mob hit as you can get. Wild West stuff that day, with two on duty cops having lunch in a booth right near them. The two kids didn't get further than the parking lot.

The Luisi family had long been involved in the Boston underworld and was allied with New England crime family boss, Francis "Cadillac Frank" Salemme.

The men who murdered the Luisis also were associates of the Boston mob and had been involved in a long-running dispute with the Luisis.

Read somewhere 95/96 baby shacks jump on the boss chair and stood sending any money to frank salemme. He inducts the dinunzio brothers around that time and the rest is history. Luisi must not have been associated with any of the boston old guys still on the street during that time. I also read it was Ralph natalee who knew his family from the fed pen and introduce bobby to the so guys when merlino and ralph where celles

In general the NE crew is very quiet these days. I understand that they are not nearly as powerful as they once were (no family anywhere is), but I get the feeling that NE may indeed be regrouping so to speak.

And if they are doing it, kudos to them. Because they are quiet and low key. So whatever guys are still active up that way I gotta believe they consulted one another and came up with this particular game plan for reorganization.

They were always a small and tight crew. Lot of killings up that way, but not typically between mafia members. Patriarca ran a tight ship and was well respected by his men.

Hi Biggie, I like your posts and you have some good stuff...would you mind telling the story of the Luisi's and Joe Black, his brother and what happened there as well as do you have any opinion on the Luisi crew's relationship with NE made man powers at that time like capo Vinny Ferrara....it doesn't seem like the Louise's and crew were under Ferrara... was that whole crew the last independent Italian crew running around the North End? I mean obviously these guys are mobsters and feared in the north end at that time but were they kicking up money to Ferrara or maybe the old man was under another NE oldtimer?

Thanks for any thoughts...
