The Zammuto Family of Rockford, IL

Through the decades, the Zammuto Family has been a quiet and tightly run, almost completely self-contained, network of closely woven mafiosi.

Interesting. I live near there. Actually in Rock Island, Illinois. Very close to the mini-mansion where John Looney ran his operations. They made a movie very, very loosely based on it, Road to Perdition. Thanks for posting, that was an interesting read.

Thanks for the post, it was a good read ! I've always found the low key families to be the most interesting.

British, I totally agree. That is why I’ve been focusing on the smaller Families lately. So much is always written about the big 5 crews in NYC. Although very interesting as well. I really enjoyed exploring and uncovering these little known and rarely talked about borgatas.

The Zammuto Family of Rockford in particular was a favorite of
Mine. Especially once I discovered that they are still in operation and rockin & rollin.

Very cool info!

I was also very surprised at the tremendous response we received all over the internet when we posted their story. Unbelievable response. Thousands upon thousands of viewers and readers.

Much more so than even some of the NYC regimes and families .

Spent part of my childhood in Rockford (late 70s, early 80s), and many of the surnames in this article are familiar to me. My pediatrician, for example, was a Dr. Zammuto. Family down the street was involved in off-track betting and had a sister out in Vegas, but no mention of their surname in article. So who knows.

In any case, great to see Rockford get some coverage.. And the Pizza Connection angle is fascinating.

Yes I felt that the Zammuto crew deserved an expose. Not a lot is ever written about them. And considering that they are still functioning I thought it interesting to research them.

I know that a poster mentioned today how they enjoy reading about the smaller crews, and the Rockford Family in particular.

Here is a expose' I did on the Joseph Zammuto Family. I hope you enjoy it, and that it provides additional information than what you already know about them.

Thanks, looking forward to this. I know nothing about them. I lived in Rockford briefly around 1980. We moved down there because my dad got a job at a Greenlee plant but it closed shortly after.

Apparently in the 70's people called it chopper town because practically everybody in town was a machinist or fabricator and you had to mostly build custom bike parts back then. My dad had a new shovelhead dresser at the time.
