Low-key soldier Santo Idone was elevated within the Philadelphia mafia in the 1970s to "capo di decina" to run the territory known as Chester, PA.

Not everyone was out of commission by 89. Names in article or people associated with them were up and running well past 89.

One of his nephews was a contractor in New Jersey. The nephew testified against DeCavalcante boss John Riggi. It's in Fresolone's book.

Idone lived in the Shore Acres/Placida Bayou neighborhood of St. Pete in the 1980s. He was arrested here by Tampa FBI and extradited to Philly in 1984.

He was definitely out and in Chester after 84. I am pretty sure if he was arrested in 84 down there it was unrelated to case that put him in for years or he got out on bond. They raided the auto shop on sixth and concord in Chester in 86 I want to say and it was wired up. One of Philly guys that flipped testified at Sams trail I want to say it was Milano but not 100 on that.

Sorry, you're right. He was arrested by the FBI in 1989 in St. Pete. In 1984 he was subpoenaed to testify in front of a grand jury looking into mob activity in Florida- but he was at that address St. Pete at that time as well.

Thank you for the compliment ScottD. I was previously unaware of Idone. I've seen his name on charts but never knew about him. While researching for the LaRocca Family expose that I did, I stumbled upon him and his crew based in Chester.

I found the crew very interesting and worthwhile writing specifically about them, hence this storyline.

Although mostly a blue collar, low end area. Chester produced good revenue for he and his small band of associates for many years. And he was able to keep low key up until the end while doing it.... his close association with Scarfo destroyed his "Gig" so to speak.
