There is a notice that after Lilo Galante got out of prison that he had contact with Joe Bonanno Sr. Some say he was giving tribute and even some sources that implies that there was people in the family willing to bring Joe back into the fold, but Bonanno declined.
Does anybody know any details of this period and if there was any sentiment to this idea? Also if it is true and why was Bonanno consulted about the Galante hit?

/quote] Yes he violated his parole in 77 and was released in February 1979. So he was out for a few months before being whacked

Didn't know he was violated for meeting Joe Bonanno. Thanks guys.

Bonanno being consulted about the Galante hit sounds like nonsense to me though. He had no official standing in Cosa Nostra at the time.

I agree to a certain extent but i think we all know if Galante DID meet with Joe, it wasn't a social call lol I'm sure they did more then have an espresso. So if Galante was giving Bonanno a sorta tribute, maybe it was just to inform(not necessarily consult) him that "Lilo is out and you won't be getting those envelopes anymore" (possible?) or just see why they met. If they found out, it was just a social call, no harm/no foul, Galante is still getting whacked. (and Bonanno being uninterested in NY matters, by remaining nonchalant, that's almost like an approval)

at the end of the day no matter what, Luciano was always Luciano, even in his last days in Italy. Same goes for Bonanno, the power may not have been there but the "show" of respect was likely still there.

A possibility no one considers is that Gambino was lying about the Bonnano plan because he had an alliance with Lucchese so who is threat to him wanting top spot? Everyone is gonna dismiss this but look at facts. Bonnano who only wanted guys from his part of Sicily made is gonna go to Columbo to do it? The same Columbo who was known to associate with Gambino prior but had no alligence to Bonnano. Who here believes Mag or Bonnano would be allowed to live if they had really hatched a plan to kill Carlo and Tommy? With connections Bonnano had in Sicily it doesn't make sense. I've said this a million times Galante was loyal to Bonnano and the h proves it. Bonnano set the whole fucking thing up and I am a believe they consulted him not because he had power anymore (he realized he was better of in AZ collecting checks) but because they (Dellacroce and Co) gave him ultimatum Galante was gonna be hit reguardless they wanted to give Joe the chance to work with them instead of against. It's not a coincidence that Dellacroce's closest underlings start getting indicted for h few years later. (Ruggerios and Gottis). The trail of h tells the story.

The Bonnano's and Gambinos who took over h trade after Galantes death probably threw a figure at him and he figured it was better then them killing Galante and getting nothing.

I agree with your first point... Luchesse puppeteered that powerplay along with Gambino who outlived Tommy and reaped the rewards.

your second point.... are you insinuating that after exile from NY, Bonanno was still a go-between for the drugs? and Dellacroce (who probably wasn't apart of the cherry hill clique, when it comes to the drugs) or whomever, thought it would be easier to eliminate Galante and go to the original source?

You made a connection, I've never really thought about, how Galante gets whacked and several years later Gotti's crew (Dellacroce underlings) get drug indictments.

I'm saying they needed Bonnano for something and I doubt it was permission LCN isnt known for telling more then who needs to know when someones getting hit. I would guess they needed him and offered him something. Why risk him telling Galante and having to go to war with a fucking maniac. Even thinking about a Dellacroce-Galante war gives me chill. And CH Gambinos were a step or two down pipeline. And it's no secret the celebration with Bonnano sidgys and dellacroce infront of ravenite follwing the hit.

Bonnano at the time couldnt say no because he probably lack distribution set up but Gambinos knew he had best pipeline from Galantes rise and pizza conections. So if they go to him and say we are taking out your main distributer but we can do this this and this Bonnano would have went along. Galante was gonna be hit whether Bonnano wanted him alive or not he took out a few Gambinos and a genovese or two trying to take over the h distribution pipeline and sure as shit didnt have permission to do so. Its my belief if Bonnano could have saved him he would have.

Bonanno was still involved in the drug trade on the west coast and Mexico. He had knowledge of Frank Bompensiero going to be killed, and there are stories that claim that Joe Bonanno, Bill Bonanno and Charles Battaglia helped setup drug operations in Acapulco and Tijuana that are still going today but with the cartels in full control.

i think Galante was gonna get clipped regardless (from the NY standpoint), i just wondered where Bonanno fit into the equation.
Do You have an idea why Galante was meeting with Bonanno?

What was Joe and Bill's involvement in the California mob in the 70s?
What were the circumstances of Charlie Batts becoming an Arizona Bonanno?
