Great article, police is not arresting people no more so they can make a killing

Well they can't really say it's crippling , everything is crippled right now . I'm sure once this is over they'll make some big moves . They just gonna be on pause like the rest of society .

Great points, especially with the borders being all but shut down. The flow of narcotics and other contraband must be affected, has the price of anything, drugs, women, etc. gone up.

Making an assumption, like any market in a scenario like this, price gauging is a possibility.

In Sicily, women are more dangerous than the shotgun.

If that was what you took away from reading this article reading comprehension is definitely not your strong suit.

Cyber crime is the way to go in a period like this one.

Nevertheless, don't forget that once this crisis is over, there will be a lot of consumption. If the mob still has the smarts, they can make a killing then.

I have a feeling the street gangs won't do so well, alot of them use drugs also. It'll be interesting to see how the underground landscape changes when this is over.

the mafia is also strongly involved in gaming online that is never out, the covid19 affects especially drug trafficking, prostitution (but the mafia is not involved in this), construction and waste disposal

Another myth, mafiosi have ever been involved in exploiting prostitution.

Oh the mob is about to jump into this big. Wait till those contracts start getting doled out Hurricane Katrina style.

Organized groups in South Italy will get stronger after this , this whole thing have huge economic impact , a lot of people will turn to mafia for help, loan and so on. It is equal to shooting themselves in the leg,but still desperate times require desperate solutions.

Agree strax. The smart bosses know there is not going to be enough cash coming in right now, so they will tell their family to either not have them kick up for awhile or only kick up a faction of what they are supposed to kick up and save as much money as they can, the ones who are greatly effective by the virus anyway, while those are unaffected will still be kicking up. Once the stay at home order is lifted, the boss will order his family to push money onto the streets, cause their is going to be a lot of people who needs money and the legal means is not going to be enough. The Government stimulus is not going to last long, but it will help some of the people to avoid the clutches of the mafia. This is not just related to the Italians, but the other OC groups too. Street gangs? They are going to be hit harder, as narcotics is usually their main bread and butter, but I would not be surprised if their membership doubles or triples after this is over.

The stimulus checks are a gesture. Nothing more. Unfortunately that's all the working class ever gets. The real money will be in the business loans and private contracts. Look no further than New Orleans post-Katrina. Except this time it will be in cities across the country. There's actually a lot of ways the mob can get into that. The more sophisticated mobsters (Genovese?) certainly will, just like they pounced on the subprime mortgage industry in the 2000s.

I don't think it will hurt the mob too much. People who owe them shylock money still owe it. And sports can't stay shutdown forever, degenerate gamblers gotta gamble.

Yeah, prostitution doesn't have a high priority, it's a grey zone like the strip joints in the US or red lights districts.

I don't see why they couldn't be taxing pimps the way they tax other people making their money illegally.

Some street gangs might be hit harder than others. There's multiple ways to keep the trafficking active and other activities their involved that isn't reliant on narcotics.

mafia members consider pimps inferior, a pimp can't be a made member in a family because is against the 'rules', they didn't apply the 'rule' for drug trafficking instead... they sure tax pimps if they are active in their zone but they are not directly involved

In Italy, they were able to prevent the spread of the contagion in the central and southern regions, including Sicily.
