The mob families today hadn't done something big after the Pizza Connection and apart the 5 families the other families are like a better organizated street gangs.
I don't live in the US but why wasn't yet a president of italian ancenstry?
The most part of the criminals are Black and/or Latinos and many rappers was criminals or have ties with criminals but ok it's a way to get out of the ghetto.

So why the mob continues to fascinate?

You're all over the place furio with three different subjects under one thread title. Only the first paragraph matches up with your thread title.

You really think the mob continues to fascinate?
Let me tell you, in NYC kids don't give a shit about the mob, most don't even know it's even a thing, in their lifetime it hasn't been, they are more into rappers and ball players.

I'm referring on a most generico thing:everyone saw the Sopranos or the Godfather and will watch the irishman.
Everyone know who's don Vito Corleone or Tony Soprano while dont know who is big meech flanory, and his organization made 300 milion a years.

In few words I tried to explane why (in my opinion) the racism let to identificate the italians with the mafia whole only few italians on the total was made men and despite that there was no us president with italian surname but a black president even if the racist against the blacks continue to be strong.

The American people don't identify Italian-Americans with the mob........unless those Italian Americans are from New York and look and act a certain way.

If you're a US presidential candidate of Italian heritage then you're simply a white guy running for office, not an Italian American. Just a white guy.

There has been Dutch, German and Irish US Presidents but did I know all that before I looked it up 5 minutes ago?....of course not. To me they are all white Americans. Not Dutch, German or Irish, and that is probably how the American people see them.

Then again, I'm being a bit too opinionated on this subject for a guy who isn't American.

I think the Italian mafia will always fascinate people that are interessted by the criminal world.

Just because they are provably the model of organized crime. Its crazy that every organized crime in many countries has their own name, but media and people will still call them mafia.

In Russia you have the Bratva but many say Russian Mafia. Japan you have the Yakuza but sometime you read the japanese mafia. In China the Triads but sometime they call them the chinese mafia, and so on.

So I think maybe because the italian mafia is one of the oldest organized crime group, but also one f the documented on, you will always have people fascinated by them.

Well maybe, some asian organized crime groups could be as old or even older.

They are secret groups, so we don’t know for sure

do you have some official documents that proof yakuza or triads were active in 1800? all I have found is early 1900, yamaguchi-gumi founded in 1915 and according to the record of the hong kong police, most of triads were established between 1914 and 1939

That's because of the Godfather. Puzo's mythologizing of Sicilian mobsters in America was hyperbole. Since the 1930s the more Americanized faction of the mob took over. People like Bonanno and Profaci were the sticklers to Sicilian tradition, and we know where they were on the pecking order.

I think the word fascinate is the wrong word. Maybe interesting. Planet earth 2 on bbc is fascinating the mafia in the 21 century is interesting to true crime buffs. There still here and interwebbed in white america in the north east. I like to read about the rico trials. The defense and even the the govs. I was reading on some nine trey bloods and the whole 69 rapper case it was very interesting did the bloods use 69 or did 69 use them. Its a toss up

Italian mobs go as far back as the middle ages, [quote=m2w][quote=Blackmobs]Do you have the name of those official documents?
I would like to read them. Influential families in Italy were always kind of like the mob.

Are not just myths, m2w. I didn't mean these in particular as these are indeed stories. But feudal Italy has always been ran by thugs. You could argue that all of feudal europes noble class and knighthood were just thugs extorting the serfs. But in Italy it stuck. That's why the story is the rejected knights of sicily who settled in Calabria.

yes, but there is not any proof sicilian mafia, camorra or ndrangheta were active at that time, there were criminals but not that type of organizations with rituals, ranks etc.

You had families like Medici family from Florence, one of first bankers in Europe , they were insanely powerful, ordered deaths of many people , they operated like todays mafia , but we can't call them organized crime , it was not an organization with rituals, ranks and so on as m2w said

I think I got interested in the Mob because as a kid occasionally I would hear on radio or TV news about some guy getting found in the trunk of a car with 1000 or more dollars in his pocket. It seemed so mysterious and scary that these guys would kill other tough guys, not even stealing a shit ton of money just there for the taking at the scene, and disappear into the night like ghosts.

I do not think people are that fascinated with the mafia today. They are fascinated with what the mafia used to be. The Irishman takes place during an era when the American mafia might have been at its strongest point. If not it’s strongest, very close.
