So I was doing some digging and saw that Sammy Gravano's daughter Karen was previously married to a guy named David Seabrook, which is why her daughter is named Karina Seabrook. I came across this interview with David Seabrook from several years ago on Hot 97 in New York. David says he was a big player with Fat Cat and Pappy Mason, who ran a powerful drug gang out of Queens in the 80s.

David met Karen in New York and must've moved with her and her family out to Arizona, because he was involved in Sammy's ecstasy ring that he was running in the late 90s when he left witness protection.

Then I came across this documentary on Sammy which is like 75-80% on Sammy's drug crew in Arizona. I hadn't seen this before and I didn't know that much about his drug crew there.

It's super fascinating because Sammy brought around all of these young wannabes who aren't street wise and he has them eating out of his hand. He's coaching them on how to run the operation and how to shake down other dealers, etc. But it's wild how flashy and brazen the crew is. They're throwing their weight around using Sammy's name to put fear into other dealers, but they're spending lots of money and driving flashy cars. You think he would have coached them on how to keep a low profile, but he must've thought that in Phoenix the cops would have no idea what was going on. He was also probably feeling very overconfident after getting off so light for the 19 murders.

Sammy also had his crew using Nextel phones to communicate because he thought that the FBI couldn't wiretap Nextels because that's what their agents use.... which sounds hilariously absurd and naive. In his book (if I remember correctly) he acted like he couldn't believe Gotti would be so public and flashy because he knew the heat it would bring, but here he is out in Arizona with his crew acting like Gottis.

Good post. It doesn't get mentioned a lot but Sammy did show himself up for a hypocrite with what happened in Arizona. He talked a good game about Gotti being too high profile and flashy, and kind of used it to justify his ratting, but he went on to repeat the same mistakes Gotti did.

Goes to show he wasn't as clever as he made himself out to be. Keep your own counsel and all that.

I remember reading an article in a local newspaper about a journalist going to a coffee shop where Gravano held court and he mentioned Gravano loving the attention and admiration of local college students and hangers on.

It reminded me of his anecdote about himself and John Gotti in a neighborhood bar; a young couple noticed Gotti and were looking at him, Gravano asked Gotti if he wanted him to take care of it and Gotti said, "no, these are my people".

Gravano turned out to be no different than Gotti when it came to basking in his notoriety.

I guess he bought into his own hype with the book deal and Diane Sawyer interview and just became intoxicated with it.

Fuck this prick. The feds wanted Gotti so bad and they got this piece of shit to rat and only gave him 5 years. Then he went Arizona and actually wanted to start a ‘crew’ of rats and still got busted.

Gravano definitely got arrogant. He got a sweet deal maybe the sweetest of any informer but he blew it.

Both ended up in prison for a long time in the end. So it had a happy ending.

I live in Scottsdale, I saw him on numerous occasion at his Restaurant Uncle Sal's on Hayden Road, it's still there today and has pictures of him still in the bar. The article that was mentioned was in New Times, a college, music, head-shop, massage, escort newspaper and it highlighted that he wasn't hiding and could be found many nights during the week on Mill Ave, right outside Arizona State University holding court in a coffee shop music venue and at his restaurant during the day.

A little off topic but we also have Louis "Little Louie" Caruso of the LA family out here just living the life he owns Golden Air, Inc. and Caruso Mechanical Services in Phoenix, AZ. I guess when the shit hit the fan he relocated to Phoenix and started this AC service company
