Damn been away from this forum for like 3 years, lured back with the recent headlines about the mob lol! Anyway, had a question: does anyone think Gotti Jr in the 90s was ever seriously close to being whacked? Either from within the Gambino's or maybe from the Genovese, or Casso and Lucchese's?? Cheers

In Andrew DiDonato’s book ‘surviving the mob’ it mentions that Nicky Corozzo wanted to kill him.

“Nicky turned to me and made the sign of a gun with his thumb and finger. He said if he did get arrested, there’d be a lot of work [killing] to do. Then he looked around at everybody and he said, ‘Do you hear me? I said if I get arrested, there’s gonna be a lot of fuckin’ work to do.’ “Nicky grabbed my hand and said, ‘And we’re gonna start with that fuckin’ Baby Huey in Queens.’ Baby Huey was what we called Junior Gotti. Nicky looked at me and Mike Yannotti. He said, ‘Okay. Start gettin’ familiar with this guy.’ Mike nodded. I said sure, whatever had to be done would be done.

I don’t think that book mentions anything other than that so in this instance I don’t think it was anything other than talk.

Back in 97' when he was found with lists of proposed members from other crime families, which he was supposed to destroy afterwards. The Genovese family would not have any sitdowns with him at all. The Bonanno family was not affected as they were not doing that many joint family ventures with the other families at the time. Louie Bagels from the Lucchese is said to have sent a message to Amuso seeking permission to kill Junior, nothing came of it and more than likely Vic did not want to go through all the problems like he had with John Gotti Sr. The Colombo family was furious about Junior antics, with Wild Bill also wanting to kill Junior. That episode costed the Gambino family a lot of money when they were cut out of deals. That was probably going through Nick Corozzo head during Operation Old Bridge. Those are the only two times I can think of there being an attempt or plot against Jr Gotti. Him getting stabbed, I really thought it was John Gambino sending a message to the Gottis to not make the movie or get involved with the family.

That conversation with Corozo and DiDonato happened in 1996 before Corozzo was arrested in Dec 1996. Operation Old Bridge was in 2008.

Thank you MG. The mid 1990s were not that kind to John Gotti Jr, almost suprised he is still alive today. Almost. His father still had friends and loyalists on the street that actually shielded him from dangers, but he was no negotiator.

Which is ironic as he portrays himself as an intellectual whenever he's on TV lionising his dad.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

Very True Moe. The kid was an idiot. Jackie Damico probably did the heavy lifting during that time. Although I admit compared to his sisters I feel he is a bit more truthful, especially the Favara thing which he doesnt seem happy that happened

Same thing with Junior Gotti as with Bill Bonanno: I'm sure he was a nice and likable guy in real life if you see them on the street, well spoken, etc. But, at the same time not a true street guy and without his dad (and his dad's supporters) a bit of a pushover.

Okay, maybe Junior wasn't a complete pushover and maybe Junior could've been a decent boss one day, the problem was his dad made him a capo at like 26 and "acting boss" at like 28. His dad basically set him up for failure.

I wouldnt compare bill bonanno and junior. True they were both were a result of nepotism BUT Bill wasnt a street guy. Junior was a musclehead whot got involved in tons of fights and killings.
