I think it has been honestly. I recall reading somewhere that there were complaints when he took a leadership role in his 40's. That being said, I still think that this guy is just a nutcase. I could be wrong. But if he was put up to it and I'm the police, I'm offering him a nice beachside property in California if he gives up who had him do it. It's just too hard to pull something like this off today. Between informants and DNA, I just don't buy it.

I don't buy it. No way this was sanctioned. Its too erratic of a plan, too much could go wrong, not just with the hit itself but afterwards in interrogation and everything. Its too risky. If they wanted him gone and there really was internal strife they would have just whacked him and been done with it, no witnesses, no closed circuit cameras to see, he just disappears.

Exactly. Why would Sicilians - of all people - trust an American nutcase kid with a history of conspiracy theory bullshit, substance abuse problems and zero mob ties whatsoever with as daunting a task as whacking a first tier mobster?

Of course he may have done it by himself, but it looks like it was well planned also I don't think they recovered the gun yet. If he remains silent there is more to it.

Gangsters are afraid of appearing weak. You and I can just say "who cares what people think" but in their business if the other guys think they're weak they will be taken advantage of. Besides, they have criminal minds, they are not normal. They don't think like us.

I never said anything about not caring what people think.

Not if they can't be taken advantage of.

Let me tell you something, if this kid clipped a leading figure in a family because of a woman then you can't go lower than this. Women are not worth wasting money on, let alone clip somebody for them. Now, the shred of respect she had for him is all gone, putting her on a pedestal? forget it. If this kid ever recovers from his problems, he will cringe to death to what he did.

Who will be next Gambino boss? And who would even want the job?

I think its pretty obvious Maninno is definitely a contender for the top spot. The power is with 18th ave and has been for awhile I think. I know one thing...no way is Gene a player anymore. No way.

I just can't see how this young man was put up to murdering Cali by the mob. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best explanation. There are too many variables that can go wrong if the mob use an irrational cat like this as a patsy.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

According to Alite in the Globe the council/commission has to give their approval to replace Cali. If the other families don't agree there could be problems Alite said.

No murder weapon yet. And yeah, I agree...what a bogus angle for the attorney to go. This kid is fucked. Although I am curious why he is charged with 2nd degree and not first? seems pre meditated to me.

Mooney your rite about the 2nd degree. Hmmm. So that eliminates the premeditated niece angle. If they thought he killed him cause he wouldnt allow him to date his niece then thats a motive an it would be a 1st. Maybe the lawyers throwing everything at the wall hoping to get a plea deal where he might get parole in 20yrs or so. And if calis family wont talk to cops or the d.a. there gonna let this guy take a plea and save tons of time and money. If the victim's family doesnt cooperate thats what they do alot. Sometimes the lawyer pleads it down to manslaughter gets you like 10yrs. The finger print on the plate you cant spin that but spur of the moment plus the family isnt the call cops and let them handle the problem type maybe he gets 15yrs living in a pc prison in Montana. States do prisoner exchanges for guys alot

Perhaps the angle is that the lawyer is saying it was not pre meditated and that him running into cali's vehicle was an accident and then he chose to murder Cali after the fact, which would make it second degree. Although the whole "Internet hate speech" reason would suggest 1st degree murder, because if trump "made him do it" then that would suggest he planned it. Who the hell knows? If he gets second degree and is convicted he will be out sometime in his 40's. However he will probably get whacked before that.

If he had targeted an outspoken leftwing person I could see a connection but to target a top gangster is weird.

I agree. I also think this kid was "mob obsessed" and at the same time was influenced by the radical right wing bullshit online. If I had to guess...he probably thought about killing a Democratic politician but his mob obsession took more precedence in his mind and decided to kill Cali.

Why would a mob wannabe kill a boss? Not only ending his mob career before it starts, but giving himself a certain death sentence to boot. You'd think it would be the other way around, that he would kill someone who disrespected Cali, like the kid in Mean Streets did.

I still think it's the niece.

The MAGA stuff, well, let's be honest, it's not like this is totally out of the norm today.

If he even knew the niece it would have been a theory or motive. Then he'd be charged with 1st degree

Ideally. But I think they tend to downgrade charges to something that will stick, too.
