What a sad world. This kid looks like the softest frat boy posing after 7 jager bombs at some state school upstate his parents paid for him to flunk out of. How in the world did this cocksucker get away with this? Very, very strange. This pussy really took out the boss of the most powerful crime family in America. LCN is officially dead as of this day. [/quote]

Again I think it’s more indicative of American culture in 2019 than it is some sort of defect in LCN. Sadly a crazy young white kid killing someone with no reason at all is not all that irregular. Cali coulda had better protection, but he was home and just finished eating dinner with his family. Prior to Wednesday do you think the bosses of the other families have armed security around when they are just eating a meal? Maybe they do, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t.

Much of The Godfather is unrealistic romanticism but one of the realist things in the trilogy is when Michael says “if anything in this life is certain, if history has taught us anything, its that you can kill anyone”

To be honest this feels kinda anti climactic. Don’t get me wrong killing is never something to root for, but a mob hit on a Gambino Boss would be extremely interesting.... then if it turns out to be just a nobody with a gun and a grudge it is not so interesting anymore.... but it will be interesting to see what happens to this kid! If a young kid can kill a boss without any repercussions then it would a sad day for the LCN.

As for Canada, Cali had good contacts in Toronto and Montreal and Canadian mobsters don't like messing around in the USA because of potential jail time. Cali has travelled to Canada many times. If they wanted to hit him, they would have lured him to Canada.

Regarding the drug seizure, the Latin Americans only give drugs "on credit" to Calabrians, so any drug shipment Cali would be involved with was paid in cash in advance. If he was "guaranteeing" passage for someone else's drugs, and the drugs were seized, he wouldn't have been hit a few days later. He would have been given time to pay or make a deal.

And in Sicily, Cali was respected and things are calm. The Mafia in Sicily is making money again and things are relatively peaceful. Plus, if they were going to do a hit, it would be much more professional than this.

As I said in earlier posts, I am still shocked Cali didn't have better protection. He was the boss of a pretty large organization. It's very sloppy not to have the proper security.

And if the Gambinos are proper OC, the shooter should be dead by the end of the month. If Vito Rizzuto was shot by some 24 year old nobody, and that nobody was caught, the nobody would be dead within a week. If the gov't put them in PC, it would just take longer, but they would be nothing but a zombie, a dead man walking.

I agree with what everything that you said except the security part. No American LCN boss, aside from maybe Al Capone, had around the clock security if there was no war going on. Frank Costello, Giancana, and Vito Genovese to name a few never traveled with a body guard let alone had one at their house 24-7. Tommy Billotti didn't live at Paul Castellano's house, the Chin walked around Greenwich Village alone with his daughter sometimes, and Vito Genovese spent a lot of time alone tending to his garden in Atlantic Highlands by himself. With there being fewer organized crime hits now there is less of a need than ever to have security around a boss, if anything it would draw attention to them that they don't want, the last thing that they want now is to be noticed.

As far as retaliation, it doubt that anything happens, and there is precedent for that. Carmine Sciandra, not a boss but Paul Castellano's nephew and a Gambino captain, was shot in the stomach in a domestic dispute in 2005 at one of his Top Tomato stores on SI. From what I know the guy who did the shooting didn't even leave Staten Island. https://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/14/nyregion/from-our-family-to-yours-bang.html

Murder and really violence of any kind are bad for business, and if something were to happen to this guy or the guy who shot Carmine Sciandra, LE would be on the Gambinos in a heart beat. This isn't Canada where you can get convicted for a murder and be out in 10 to 15 years or even sooner.

Many people and actual mobsters feel the opposite regarding The Godfather. But that’s not what this thread is about.

There’s a possibility that maybe someone got wind about this kid’s dismay toward Cali and he was told he would have support if he went ahead with the murder. But that’s just a theory in my head. I believe he worked alone. It seems as though Cali underestimated what this kid was capable of.

He will last a while in the system and then he will get stabbed in prison for some bs. He will be dead before his 30th birthday, mark my words.

I think it was the Rothschilds or the Rockefellers. Maybe he was about to expose the Illuminati. This kid is probably just a patsy, like Sirhan Sirhan and Lee Harvey Oswald.

Might be some truth to your theory. Kid maybe lcn associated. Due to the niece and the sloppy way it was done probably makes that theory unlikely though imo

What does a connected person look like, though?

When we visualise mobsters they usually are in the 40-75 age bracket. This cat's only 24. What do most up and coming mobsters look like at that age? And don't tell me that doofus that was hanging around Joey Merlino at his trial. He looked like he was straight out of central casting. Most young mob guys wouldn't be trying that hard to look the part.

Hey ya never know maybe they’re using this kid as a way to throw off everyone so it just looks like it was some whacked out kid. Or maybe I just don’t wanna believe that one of the most powerful and respected bosses of our era just got knocked off by some fuck boy idiot 24 year old kid lol either way I feel like there’s more to this

There is a podcast that came out a year or so ago called the RFK Files, and it was examining the theory that Bobby Kennedy’s assassin was under hypnosis at the time when he killed him, and not acting under his own volition. It sounds absolutely nutty but the podcast gave it a lot of credence. I’m not a conspiracy theory guy by a long shot but it had me believing this was at the very least possible. Maybe some part of the government realized the stability and effectiveness Cali was bringing to the Gambino family and used a similar tactic??

“Was he acting alone? Was he acting for other people? What was the motive? I simply, standing here in front of you, do not have all of the answers,” said Shea, chief of detectives. “These are all the questions we will pursue to make sure working with the prosecutors we have anyone responsible for this incident held to justice.”

Shea said police think Comello is the shooter but the investigation is far from over.

Comello was described as having limited previous contact with the NYPD, Shea said, but he would not be specific. Comello once exhibited strange behavior in a federal courthouse that prompted law enforcement to check him out, The New York Times reported without providing specifics.

I stalked his Facebook and found a few more. Everything is so outdated though, so most of what you'll find is from when he was a teenager. He's a Tottenville High School alumni and appears to have been a loser for a long time. I'll say he's pretty unimpressive guido trash, or at least that's how he portrayed himself on social media. He had decent taste in hip hop, but from his posts he was overall a pretty dull kid. I wouldn't be surprised if he was mentally deranged from a very early age.

The police chief said more.

“We are well aware of Mr. Cali’s past,” he added. “That will be part of this investigation as we determine the motive… there are multiple angles we are still exploring…The priority was getting the individual responsible for the murder off the street.”

He added: “Let me reiterate, this is far from over.”
