If you had a pick a family/organization/crew to belong to and why, what would it be? It can be any organization or group. Italian, Irish, Russian, Biker Gang, specific crew, etc.

A lot of people would say Genovese just because of how organized and lucrative the family still is, but as others in here have said, if they even begin to think you're a problem, you're gone. The Colombo family has probably been the most accessible historically. Didn't some Colombos have a party a decade ago or whatever where Tony Sirico and other Sopranos people were right out in the open with made guys? I'd have to say they're the mob family to the stars.

Tony Sirico was a colombo associate from the 1960s to 1980s before start acting.
Anyway in NY also the Luccheses are a strong family with the Gambinos and out NY I would choose philly or the outfit.

Probably the Rochester Crime Family because then I could just run gambling operations and lay low. Plus their hit men couldn't shoot straight.

New England family.

I'll setup in Boston. Poker machines business, shylocking, fraud schemes and semi-legitimate businesses. I'll be making money hand over fist.

New England seems more off the law enforcement radar compared to the five families, unless I'm mistaken?

I believe someone posted a Rochester chart once that showed an A team and a B team. That was cool.

Yeah Oaw there was an A,B, and C team during the rochester war in the early 1980s and the C team was only made by associates and wannabes.

Easy, looking back who wouldn't want to have been the outfits guy in Vegas.

Today, I'd be the Patriarca guy in Providence cause the Foxy Lady is a great place to hang out

Lefty Rosenthal probably had the best deal. He never had to hurt anyone. Just had to keep business rolling at the mob owned casinos. They wanted him to look as legitimate as possible. He evaded prosecution and somehow ended up surviving the killing spree that took place at the onset of the skim trial. Spent his golden years running a restaurant in Boca and continued to mop the floor with bookies who didn't have half his sports knowledge. The only real long term comeuppances he faced were that he ended up banned from Nevada casinos, which killed him (he tried several times to sneak in with disguises), and of course his marriage to Ginger McKenna, but that was his own personal doing.

Associate of Mayer Lansky.

Like Joe Nesline from Washington, DC. You are the King of DC. Make millions with gambling around the world. (caribbean,amsterdam,hamburg...)
No greedy LCN family in your back. No FBI. Licence for a really good time.

Sidney Korshak might fall into that category too, Nitro. Big time fixer for the Outfit who was ostensibly a LA lawyer. Never faced criminal charges. Never had to do any muscle work. Had access to presidents and the highest positions of the Outfit at a time when they were arguably the most powerful organized crime group in the world.

The Genovese. It's not even a question. I've dreamed about being part of them since I was a child. I would never do it of course.

Hard to believe I would have chose the Pittsburgh LCN under John LaRocca.

I don't know. Probably an 1% club, as they do seem to have more of a brotherhood than other organizations. But if you did have a falling out with them, I imagine it would be harder to hide from them than the mob, there's bikers everywhere.

In modern times I wouldn’t join any of them...but just to play along if I could go back to the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s...the Gagliano/Lucchese family would be a solid choice. Smaller family with stable and quiet leadership with a wide range of both blue collar and white collar opportunities to make some serious money.

But my main interest has always been with the Luciano/Genovese family so I’ll choose them of that same era.
