I've always wondered,, Since everything nowadays is Data and that stuff.. Do the Mafias, (The italians, mexicans, russians chinese etc etc) hire like the best hackers in the world for their benefits.. Like hacking in to the police departments and see how much they have on this and that, Or like hacking in to the Governemnt and maybe see future plans..

What are your thoughts

Well nobody in the American LCN, as far as I know, has ever been charged or linked to such a crime. So the evidence says no, the Mafia is not involved.

And it's not like the American Mafia hang around the same circles as the "Mr. Robot" "hackerman" types. And I doubt Frank Cali would be inclined to put out an ad on Craigslist offering money to hack into the local police station computers.

There are hackers called black hats will do everything for money and maybe a mobster would try to meet this hackers, one thing is to sell credit cards code and other cyber crimes and another is to hack the police or the fbi databases. And for what? kill a snitch? the mob apart datello case abdicate to the idea to kill a snitch.

There's pretty much of Eastern European and Russian gangs involved in Cyber-crime. Why? Much more money and less chances to get caught.

I wouldn't say traditional hacking but off shore gambling internet sites have been linked to and ran by LCN, so they're involved. Also in the late 90s or early 2000s - the Gambino's ran a "phishing" scheme for credit cards through fake porn sites. The pay out was massive.

It took a while for organized crime to adapt to cybercrime.

True on that. It's mostly a new generation thing actually as I have noticed. So people who understand how gadgets and computers work.

Also nowadays it's very common to buy drugs with bitcoin. The Irish cartel does it in Amsterdam.
