I just got a book by an author named Tom Santopietro. The Godfather Effect may have been discussed on here in the past, although I could not find it using the search function in any previous posts. Very good book, it analyzes the movie and script, and it goes into the decision making process of how they decided to cut out certain parts of the book to improve the script for the film. Santopietro also gives us information on the history of Sicily and how it fits into the film. It's not the usual read on the Godfather, but a book that anyone on here should read.

There's a quote in the book, attributed to Michael, about how the Rockefellers were thieves before they were philanthropists. If there's a note in the book actually sourcing that quote I'd appreciate hearing where it came from. The quote got dropped into every wikipedia article related to The Godfather in any way, and spread from there to the internet generally.

Thanks for any insight.

It sounds like it is a quote from the movie, so that would be where to look. I do not remember the quote, what did you think of the book?

I looked in the index of the book and on the amazon preview page for the book, I can't find any reference to the Rockefellers or that quote. Are you sure it is the same book?

It's on page 72 in the book, assuming there's only one edition. It seems like Santopietro is saying that it's from the original novel, but it's not in there.

Thanks for bringing this up. Some additional searching has turned up a book of movie quotes that has the same quote, this time sourced to GF3. Looks like one of them messed up, and the other copied from the first. Thanks!

You're welcome. It is a good book, aside from that bit of confusion.

I'm sure it is. Sorry to disrupt the thread with something that's a private obsession.

I just found the book, and checked for you, you are right, it is on page 72, it is attributed to Puzo's book, not The Godfather movie.
