Interesting funny they don't mention he is a mob boss.

He has more than enough money to file a libel lawsuit--all the newspapers want to avoid that.

Adrian Humphreys's story about this:

Alleged Toronto mobster among 12 detained after DUI arrest leads to unexpected global fraud probe

http://nationalpost.com/news/toronto/all...bal-fraud-probe

Note the National Post's caution in the headline. Note also how Humphreys made sure to include in his article Commisso's insistence in 2010 about not being a mob boss.

Your right Humphrey is being careful in his wording.

According to the article that I've linked to below, which used Toronto Police Service Detective Rick Ramjattan as a source, two of the people charged--Giuseppe Gatti and Taragh Bracken--are married. The article states that Bracken is a lawyer. (Note that Whitby is a town that is about a 50 min. drive from downtown Toronto.)

Gatti and his wife appear to have been involved in fraud schemes before--below is a link to a 2012 article.

Peter Edwards does call him a Vaughan mob boss, interesting that Australian investigators were also involved in the probe. The Commisso's have a presence in Australia and Argentina.

Please stop making stuff up about Peter. Journalists don't write headlines for their stories; there are other staff at newspapers who do that.

His article is reproduced in other newspapers and their websites. The headline for one such article is "12 arrested, including alleged Vaughan mob boss, in $11M fraud investigation" -- see https://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/75...investigation/.

You're right it's the same article with a different headline. The only ones who say he's a leader of the camera di controllo were the Italians.

I went to the court proceedings this morning at Old City Hall (Toronto). None of the defendants was present for their First Appearance. Today's proceedings had more to with scheduling the next date, which will be Thursday, November 16, 9:00 am (same courtroom: Room 111).

Two defendants have hired high-profile lawyers (James Lockyer is representing one defendant; Peter Brauti is defending the other). Another defendant's counsel is a criminal laywer from a high-profile Toronto law firm.

The conspiracy to kill two unnamed Sicilian mobsters mentioned in the national post are believed to be Pietro Scarcella and Paul Volpe. I know Scarcella is Castellammarese of Sicilian origin. But not sure about Paul Volpe, I think I read somewhere that Paul Volpe (born in Toronto) is either of abruzzese or barese origin ?

For the longest time, I thought Volpe had Sicilian ancestry because that's what older articles, and even newer ones, asserted. Then I thought he had northern Italian ancestry (Mob rule author's opinion, even though he never mentioned Volpe's roots in the book). Then, on another forum, a poster recalled reading that Volpe's ancestry is from Puglia.

The best answer, possibly, is that Volpe's parents and grandparents, as well as his mother's parents, had ancestry from Monteleone di Puglia. Although this comune in the province of Foggia has been part of the region of Puglia since 1929, the comune was previously part of Avellino in the region of Campania.

Volpe's father, Vito, was born around 1889. Vito Volpe and Elisabetta (Elizabeth) Russo were married in York, Toronto, Canada on May 8, 1916. Elisabetta Russo's parents were Francesco Russo and Amalia (Amelia?) Trombetta.

Canadian writer Jerry Prager is almost singlehandedly responsible for tracing the ancestry of Volpe and other Italian-Canadian mafiosi and associates, whether well known or not. The above links are a result of my own research, which was made easier because Prager had done so much legwork.

Antimafia,

Thanks for the info. I was close Bari is in Puglia. I know I had read that somehwere but can't remember where. That is another error that the news outlets keep repeating.

The american woman with a contract on her head, must be Helen Nafpliotis.

Monteleone di Puglia is bordered by four comuni that are located in Avellino (Campania). If you can remember where you read that Volpe's ancestry was from Puglia, please let us know, as there are others who have also read the same.

Did Edwards or Humphreys update their article to mention the murder plot in which the intended target was Nafpliotis?

I dug out an old article above..

Furthermore, the Mob Rule book gives the reason why they wanted
her killed. Vincent Melia brother Nick was having a messy affair with this hairdresser, to the point that his wife had threatened her with a hockey stick. The hairdresser was also witness to a shooting so she had to go. The book also mentions that Vincent is a leader of the Calabrese mob in connecticut.

Two books besides Mob rule detail the background to the murder plot and the sting: 1) Mafia enforcer: a true story of life and death in the mob, which is also known as Mafia assassin: the inside story of a Canadian biker, hitman, and police informer, and 2) Police undercover: the true story of the biker, the mafia & the mountie.

The latter book can be read for free at https://archive.org/details/policeundercover00mark.

The book "Iced" also makes mention of them.

I do not believe he was a Vito ally. They have deported mafia individuals in the past such as Moreno Gallo and Luigi D'amico. They had found out that these two individuals had never become citizens. But if you are a citizen it is more difficult. If an individual is wanted in another country whom they have an extradition agreement. Then it is possible in some cases to extradite the said person. Example Vito Rizzuto's extradition to the United States.
