Dave Schratweiser is reporting Ron Previte, the cop-turned gangster-turned informant who got Merlino et al put away in 2000, died Monday. Would have been in his mid-70s, I would guess. He's in the second segment of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcrknGiJOck

In his last interview, he was talking all kinds of smack like, They know where I am, they can come down anytime. I am surprised he lived that long. How old was he? Also surprised "Big Joey" is still going strong.....Maybe Joey had the surgery and has a sportsbook in NYC and he is operating incognito.

That guy would do and say anything to get what he wanted.
I know many like the way Nick Caramandi talks " but they are cut from the same cloth. Both are con men and did well .
Nick C doing better because of Scarfo , but they are what there are.
Previte was so desperate he would carry a picture of him and Stanfa everywhere he went !! This is how he did his extortion rackets.
He would find guys with a small book in there town and wait around till Saturday or Sunday when his guy would be taking bets on the pay phone and walk up to him or them and pull out the picture of him and Stanfa and say you owe us 10G and you have a week to pay up and that was just the past money .
Then he would extort his share of your book depending on how big of course.
He did this a lot " he ran into a couple people that were connected and almost had big problems " but he was quick to back down if he fucked with a made guys associates .
Pmac is right" I don't think he was made " I think he was just told something to make his mind happy.
But if you have to carry a picture everywhere you go to do your bidding you don't have long ! Interesting, thanks Serp! I know he was ALWAYS about the money.

I can't remember what documentary or film it was but it was somewhat recent and the guy admitted on air he was still an active bookmaker , he might of even said I will take your action to the interviewer, tho I could be wrong on that part .
Know nothing about him and I'm sure he was quite the earner that he said but what rat admits on air he is still an active criminal . What a joke , tho he did seem funny lol , discussions with him and Joey must have been hilarious It was the Trevor Macdonald series.

Still dont believe he was ever a inducted member. He claims stanfa just said now your with us merlino and all the other guys stanfa made had the ceromony. Theres no way all the guys in philly just forgot previte was a cop for awhile in philly. Think he said like 5 or more yrs. I remember the book by Donald "Tony The Greek" Frankos. He said there was a Columbo family captain who was half Polish.
Tommy Del in Philly half polish. Jimmy Marcelo in Chicago half Irish. Junior Gotti half a douche bag. The list goes on and on...

Never liked him. I do like his side where he admits he only cared about the money but still he's a class-A douche. And he was never made, forget about it. Stanfa was fucking with him.
