I heard a theory that once Colombo's thing gained steam, he wanted Joe to use his influence to help Italian mainland mafia members somehow. I assume Joe didn't obey and that is the reason he got whacked..... Reason being, why didn't Don Carlo stop him earlier? Carlo probably had a deal in place to release jailed mainland members if he stopped Colombo's public rising. So Carlo made it look like he didn't want the attention to LCN but secretly had a side scheme already planned.

More then 1 person Raven , my Family has lived downtown westside since 1897 thru today. The made guy that Chin hit was in a different family and would later go on to tutor a young John Gotti. He had a small group in place within this mostly Genovese stronghold of a neighborhood. The story is true. If you doubt it there is no way I can change your thought. This was not the only time Vito interceded on Chins behalf.

For the most part, the rules have always come second to money. I'll bet there have been many cases where an un-made associate with a solid reputation as an earner put his hands on some barely relevant soldier, and got away with it.

No not the same story , Chin was young man when this happened. Early 1950"s , his youngest daughter was born almost 20 years later.

It seems to me that if this Chin story is true and it happened in the early 50's it would have happened when Frank Costello was boss. Frank was in and out of jail in the early fifties so if Chin was made on short notice by Vito Genovese it more than likely happened without Frank's approval while he was away in jail.

Vito didn't exactly play by the rules though. He had a lot of power before he was the Boss so it is possible, I suppose.

Chin was Don Vitone protegè for sure Vito save chin life and he tried to kill costello. Genovese was more feared than costello on the streets so the made man have to fear Genovese.
