I know during the Capone's reign the outfit wasn't considered a La Cosa Nostra but guys like Paul Ricca and Tony Accardo were considered 'Friends of Ours' so was the Waiter the first ever made guy?

There were literal made guys in Chicago even prior to those guys. By literal made guys, I mean initiated members of the Sicilian Mafia who went on to have Families in the US. Like Tony & Joe Aiello, they ran a Mafia Family in Chicago which may have been considered to be the first, but I believe there was even a Chicago boss before Aiello. Anyway, the Aiello's were allies of Maranzano and were against Masseria, Masseria wanting to establish a flag and gain allies in Chicago, is believed to have been the one who made Capone. Mind you only Ralph & Al were considered to be actual made members, so Ralph also had to be inducted some time around his brother, or a short while later, who knows. But Bottles was definitely considered an initiated member and had dealings with the other Chicago administration members whom were also known to be made members like, Accardo & Aiuppa.

Hmm I always thought Capone was under Maranzano's flag. Bonanno definitely considered him an ally of his.

He may have been tight with Bonanno after the Castellamarese war, but he was brought into Cosa Nostra by Masseria. Bonanno even says in his book, after the death of Masseria, during a big meeting in Chicago, Maranzano acknowledged Capone as once part of the Masseria faction, but that he wanted peace, thus he acknowledged Capone as the head of the Chicago Family, of course this was after the Castellamarese War, and liquor beefs had decimated the Sicilian Mafia inducted Aiello brothers.

The Capone mob accepted many previously made members(mostly left overs since many of them were killed)) of the Mafia and also Capone was given the right to make at least a dozen of his own people. Im not that good in making charts, or to tell you the truth im not very interested in who was made and who was not, since im mostly of a story telling guy. But a while ago i posted one Capone chart and so this is my latest view of Capone's La Cosa Nostra organization...and dont forget this is not 100% accurate


Time period 1929-1932


Boss: Al Capone (in 1929, with the help of the Masseria Mafia clan, went through a traditional Mafia ceremony in New York and as a boss of a different city, Capone had the authority to make more members of his organization, at least a dozen. Capone was sent to 11 years in jail in 1932. Later he was succeeded by a ruling panel)

Made Men (this list mostly includes members which I believe were “made” by Capone himself and also members who I also believe were previously “made” into the already existing Mafia but later were accepted by the Capone organization):

Salvatore Loverde (previously made member and also considered the boss of the Chicago Mafia. But since Capone was more powerful, Loverde became more of a representative for the Chicago faction of America’s Sicilian Mafia)

Phil D’Andrea (possible previously “made” member who operated on the city’s Near Northwest Side. But by 1932, D’Andrea maybe succeeded Loverde and became leader of the Chicago Mafia)

Paul Ricca (possible previously “made” member by the Camorra back in Italy but later I believe he was “made” by Capone into La Cosa Nostra. After the murder of Joe Esposito in 1928, he took over his crew and operations on Taylor Street)

Sylvester Agoglia (came around the same time with Capone from New York, and was also possibly “made” by Capone and by the mid 1930’s somehow fell from stature and was given few operations in the Cicero area)

Anthony Volpe (possible previously “made” member by the Camorra in the U.S. and was later accepted into La Cosa Nostra. By the mid 1930’s somehow fell from stature and was given few operations in the Cicero area)

Albert Anselmi (previously “made” by the Genna crime family from the West Side and was later accepted by the Capone Mob. Killed in 1929)

John Scalise (previously “made” by the Genna crime family from the West Side and was later accepted by the Capone Mob. Killed in 1929)

Joseph Giunta (previously “made” by the Sicilian faction in Chicago. Killed in 1929)

Frank Nitti (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated on the Near South and South Side and also possible underboss for Capone. Jailed in 1931 but released in 1932 and that same year he was shot but managed to survive)

James Mondi (possibly “made” by Capone himself but by the mid 1930’s he fell from stature and was given few operations on the Near South Side and Loop)

Frank Rio (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated on the Western Suburbs and also possible underboss for Capone)

Ralph Capone (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated in the Cicero area)

Charles Fischetti (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated in the Southwest area)

Rocco Fischetti (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated in the Southwest area)

Joe Fusco (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated on the West Side)

Louis Campagna (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated in the Lower West Side)

Tony Capezio (possibly “made” by Capone somewhere around the early 1930’s, and first operated on the city’s North Side but later transferred on the upper West Side)

Vincenzo Gilbaldi (possibly “made” by Capone himself but after the imprisonment of his boss, Gilbaldi was demoted)

Santo Virrusso (possible previously made member of the Chicago Heights area who belonged to the Sicilian Mafia but was later accepted by the Capone mob)

Dominic Roberto (possibly “made” by Capone himself and operated in Chicago Heights but was deported in 1928 and by 1929 he was replaced with Jim Amaratti)

The Costello brothers, Charlie, Sam and Nick (possible previously made members of the Chicago Heights area who belonged to the Sicilian Mafia but were later accepted by the Capone mob)
