I think the current hierarchy as of 2015 is one of two possibilities:
(I think John DiFronzo, Pete DiFronzo and Joseph Andriacchi are all retired). Possibly Marco D'Amico as well.

Option 1:

Boss- Sal DeLaurentis
Underboss-Sal Cautadella
Consligiere- John Matassa
Elmwood Park Capo- Rudy Fratto
Elmwood Park Capo- Tony Dote
Grand Avenue Capo- Albert Vena
Cicero Capo- James Inendino
Cicero Capo- Lou Marino
26th Street Capo- Frank Caruso

Option 2:

Boss- Sal DeLaurentis
Underboss- John Matassa
Consligiere- Lou Marino
Elmwood Park Capo- Rudy Fratto
Elmwood Park Capo- Marco D'Amico
Grand Avenue Capo- Albert Vena
Cicero Capo- James Inendino
Cicero Capo- Sal Cautadella
26th Street Capo- Frank Caruso

I think that pre 2007, there were actually two separate Outfit hierarchies. One was Elmwood Park/Grand Avenue and the other was Cicero/26th Street. Once Marcello went away in 2005-2007 and Sarno took over the Cicero crew, the Outfit was reunited with one hierarchy with DiFronzo as boss, Andriacchi as Underboss and D'Amico as Consigliere. I think from 2001-2007, I think the hierarchy looked like this.

Northside Group:

Boss- John DiFronzo
Underboss- Joe Andriacchi
Consiglieri- Marco D'Amico
Elmwood Park Capo- Peter DiFronzo
Grand Avenue Capo- Jimmy Cozzo/Albert Vena

Southside Group:

Boss- James Marcello
Underboss- Michael Sarno
Consiglieri- Tony Zizzo
Cicero Capo- James Inendino/Sal Cataudella
Melrose Park Capo (part of Cicero)- John Matassa
26th Street Capo- Frank Caruso

Was the faction from cicero that was challenging the old guard the reason difronzo stepped down?

I believe DiFronzo and Andriacchi stepped down, which caused DiFronzo's brother to also step down. At that point, there were reports of some issues between younger members of the Cicero crew and older members of the Outfit, including those in the Cicero crew. I take this to mean that the younger Cicero guys were challenging the leadership of Inendino, Matassa and Cataudella.

People have reported that Michael Sarno made a number of people into the Cicero crew. No one is sure who these people are, or who they might be. If anyone has been made into the Outfit since 2000, it has been into the Cicero crew. The other crews don't appear to have any new members. Additionally, there were reports that Nick Ferriola initially reported to Calabrese out of 26th Street. Yet, he now appears to report to Cicero. This would provide a good indication that only Cicero has made new guys, or allowed people to associate into the crew.

Additionally, all of the younger members appear to associate with Cicero. Carparelli, Iozzo and Sardone are a good indication of this as well. Not to mention Ferriola worked at the printing company.

What is the average age of those people? 80?

Sal DeLaurentis- mid 70s
Sal Cautadella- early 60s
John Matassa- early 60s
Rudy Fratto- early 70s
Tony Dote- early 60s
Albert Vena- mid 60s
James Inendino- early 70s
Lou Marino- early 80s
Frank Caruso- early 70s

Although the Outfit has always been very high up in age as far as the top spots are concerned. If you look at the "Last Supper" photo from 1976, all of the guys except for Lombardo were in their 60s, 70s and 80s.

Now, it does not appear that there are many young associates or made men in the Outfit. Although of course it is tough to tell until some of them are in the newspaper. As far as I know, the only made guy under 50 appears to be Nick Ferriola.

I think he was underboss for Marcello, then in 2007 may have been the Cicero Capo. I do not think he was ever underboss, although they may consider Cicero the dominant crew and since he was the most "active" on the street, the acting boss. It was also reported that Sarno kicked up $$ to DiFronzo and the administration after 2007.

Some of the people Sarno made have been speculated upon endlessly - guys like Steve Panzarella and Mark Montana - business owners and real estate guys who were with the Cicero crew but don't necessarily look like gangsters. These guys have been getting their hooks into Indian casinos throughout the midwest for years.

Also don't forget about Mike Posner down in Curacao - he ran his father's old book and racing service and ran a separate Lake County crew for years until he went to prison in the late 80s. He has been in Curacao for the last decade or so running the casinos that Jimmy Cozzo and Frankie Milito started down there back in the 90s.

I'm not sure Nick is necessarily "made" but definitely under 50. There are other younger guys in the Outfit that run in a few crews in Elmwood Park, Melrose and Berwyn. I'm not sure any of them are made however.

Ferriola is about 40. He's been involved in the rackets since the early 1990s, first with the Calabrese crew, then Cicero. He had a job at the printing company, yet was not tapped to do any of the work done by Carparalli and Co. To me, this means that Ferriola is too high up to do such minor work. If Cicero made a bunch of people in 2007 or 2008, wouldn't Ferriola be one of them?

Michael Posner never ran a crew. Posner was a big loan shark, bookmaker, vice king, but never on the level of Hy Larner or Lenny Patrick. Posner was part of the Cicero crew under Joe Ferriola, Rocco Infelise and it is said that now Posner reports directly to the Capo of Elmwood Park.

Isn't Panzarella well into his 60s?

Posner ran the other Lake County Crew in the late 70s/early 80s. In trial transcripts around the Infelice and Co trial, Louie Marino explains that its "them and Posner's crew" in Lake County to BJ Jahoda.

Posner is generations behind Larner and Patrick. His father Bernard "PeePee" Posner was one of Joe Ferriola's closest friends and a major drug dealer who moved down to Florida eventually.

Panzarella is older - I think his son runs a lot of his company nowadays. He also has Lou Capizzi working for him, a Grand Avenue fixture whose family owned Johns Sandwiches on Grand/Damen.

scott said there was a beef with the young guys and old guys back in 2014 and solly D settled it. scott said they have been making guys

here is an article in 2014 he wrote BEFORE he became boss

http://gangsterreport.com/high-ranking-chicago-mobster-plays-peacemaker/

Whether it’s an official appointment or not, Chicago mob stalwart Salvatore (Solly D) DeLaurentis is acting in a consigliere capacity these days, with Illinois Don John (Johnny No Nose) Di Fronzo and his brother and aid-de-camp Peter (Greedy Petey) Di Fronzo, significantly leaning on the 76-year old Lake County capo to ease straining relationships between loyalists to jailed street boss Michael (Fat Mike) Sarno and the rest of The Outfit (local slang for the Windy City mafia).

According to underworld and law enforcement sources, Sarno brought into the fold and possibly inducted a group of Cicero-based hoodlums that have run amok and begun stepping on toes since Fat Mike, 55, was busted on racketeering charges in 2009 and subsequently convicted and sentenced to 25 years behind bars.

In reaction to this, the Di Fronzo brothers have repeatedly turned to the highly-respected DeLaurentis to smooth things out, which he has successfully done to this point.

The current capo of Cicero is alleged to be James (Jimmy I) Inendino, also called “Jimmy the Ice Pick” for his past use of the murder tool (Jimmy I cut his teeth in the Windy City underworld as part of the bloodthirsty “Wild Bunch,” in the 1970s and 80s, deceased Outfit boss Joseph (Joe Nick) Ferriola’s enforcement branch)

Some Chicago mob watchers speculate that Marco (The Mover) D’Amico is actually No Nose Di Fronzo’s consigliere, a normal go-to in situations like this, but Solly D was tapped to take care of the problem due to his roots in the Sarno camp.

Sarno and DeLaurentis were nailed together in a 1990 federal racketeering indictment that brought down almost the entire Cicero-headquartered “Good Ship Lollipop” crew ran by Ernest (Rocky) Infelice. That investigation revealed Solly D, sometimes referred to as “Solly the Pizza Man” or the shortened version “Solly Za” for his operation of a pizza joint, was Infelice’s No. 2 in charge, struck fear in many of those he encountered and eerily forecasted the gore-ridden 1985 murder of recalcitrant bookie Hal Smith.

In the months leading up to Smith’s heinous death, DeLaurentis was recorded telling him he would be “trunk music” if he didn’t start paying tribute to the mob. Smith’s strangled and mutilated body was indeed found in the trunk of his car in an Arlington Heights parking lot shortly thereafter, done away with by DeLaurentis’ men.

“This is Chicago, nobody skates for free, everybody pays,” Solly D was taped telling Smith.

Later that day, he told his wired-for-sound driver William (BJ) Jahoda, “I love my job.”

Because of these factors, DeLaurentis was saddled with more prison time than Sarno; He got out in 2005, opposed to Sarno who was let out in 1999 and was able to rise in the ranks quickly, named to manage the Family’s daily affairs in the wake of his predecessor James (Jimmy the Man) Marcello’s imprisonment nine years ago.

“Made” into the Outfit alongside Rudy (The Chin) Fratto and John (Pudgy) Matassa at a 1988 Father’s Day induction ceremony, DeLaurentis replaced longtime capo Joseph (Black Joe) Amato as racket chief of Lake County, a region north of Chicago that Al (Scarface) Capone originally infiltrated during the Prohibition era.

Upon his release from incarceration, DeLaurentis is reputed to have reassumed his post within the mob in Chicago.

Last year, an alleged underling of his, Paul Carparelli, 45, was arrested for running an extortion ring, taped telling an associate of his in the winter of 2013 that Solly D and one of Solly D’s primary lieutenants paid him $10,000 to give a slow-paying debtor of theirs’ “a thorough beating.”

“Solly DeLaurentis is not the type of individual to be trifled with, he’s a capable leader and enforcer and the kind of mobster the bosses in the Outfit appreciate and utilize,” said retired FBI agent (31 years on the job) and dogged Chicago mob pursuer Jim Wagner of Solly D’s reputation.

It would be odd that DiFronzo would ok a hit to take out Zizzo in favor of Sarno. There is a clear indication that DiFronzo had a split with Marcello in 2002. Sarno was Marcello's #2. DiFronzo probably let Cicero do whatever they wanted to do in order to preserve the Cicero/Elmwood Park status quo. At some point, Sarno started kicking up to DiFronzo, probably when DeLaurentis was released from custody, who made peace between the two.

No one knows if anyone has been made since the 1988 ceremony. However, it is known there was no ceremony between 1988 and 1995 because Calabrese is the only made guy to have flipped and he went to prison in 1995.

Calabrese only mentioned 1983 and 1988. I don't think there necessarily was no ceremony between 1988 and 1995, just none that Nick knew about. The only reason he knew about the 1988 one was because Jimmy DiForti got made then and he was from Nick's crew.

As a matter of fact, Solly D was made in 1989, if I remember correctly, in a separate ceremony than the one where DiForti was made.

Don't forget that crew was split into two factions. Zizzo was Marcello's guy and when he went away Zizzo got hit.

Yep. And we know from FBI files that a lot of times the soldiers were kept insulated from a lot of the important information that only people at the top knew ( I can only assume as a way to keep people at the top safe from anyone who may flip). Calabrese didn't even know some of the guys being made with him.

Don't forget that crew was split into two factions. Zizzo was Marcello's guy and when he went away Zizzo got hit.

He is the best researcher on Detroit with George Anastasia retired there is a gap for the best philly researcher and his articles on Chicago are good.

He has law enforcement sources and some street sources in chicago and Detroit. I think George gave some of his philly sources over. I am not saying everything is always 100% I mean even capeci has got things wrong over the years people forget without guys like Scott we would not have any idea what's going on until an indictment of course. I am just a fan of his site.

Anyway lets keep this on the outfit otherwise it will cause arguments with the scoff haters/guys who can't move on
