He was apart of Boot Bioardo's Genovese crew. While that scene of his character played by Walken, crying to Valli singing in the restaurant, really happened. I don't think Walken's performance was a good representation of what he was like in real life. He was lot more brutal and somewhat of a scary, angry man who wouldn't think twice to kill you.

The DiCarlo book is about The Buffalo Boss before Maggadino rather than NJ's Gyp.

Or to be more accurate Giuseppe DiCarlo's son.

It was mandated by his remaining family that Gyp be portrayed as like able or they couldn't use his name

I agree , great movie , loved Devita who I met several times

So was gyp a capo? I thought Richie the boot def was but a poster.above said he was part of Boiardos crew?

Also I know Pescis mob ties have kinda been touched on here, but was he close w DeCAarlo as it seems he ran this part of NewaRK at the time? Anyone know how he went from DeCarlo to bein connectED to Joe Dente I believe it was? Love Pesci really hope he comes outta retirement to do I Heard You PainT Houses like its been rumored

Gyp was a capo, he worked with Boiardo and Gerry Catena when they were both under Moretti, before the crew split sometime in the fifties. I'm guessing that was either when Moretti was hit in the early fifties and Catena took over the Jersey crew or maybe when Genovese took over the family in '57 and Catena moved up to Underboss.

DeCarlo was a capo in his own right. After that crew split up following the death of Moretti and Vito's ascent to boss, they were all pretty much rewarded their own crews, so to speak. Boiardo had a crew and cooperated business wise with DeCarlo, DeCarlo and the elder Boiardo were close, going back as far to the Boots "First Ward Mob" days. Boiardo & Catena, not so much. Those two supposedly weren't very close, Catena I believe was one of the suspects when Bioardo had an attempt on his life made with a shotgun, it was initially suspected other members of Moretti's group did it, but it was most likely the Mazzochi's or Abner Zwillman's underlings.

Yeah, Eugene Catena, Boiardo and DeCarlo each ran their own crews in the early sixties and I think Catena's crew split in the early seventies between Lou Gatto and Tino Fiumara to make the four Jersey crews in the Genovese's today.
