Anyone read this book yet?

He strikes me as a kinda bizarre figure to get a full length capeci book- as he was mostly a marginal figure whose main use in the mafia was as a weak, desperate gaspipe puppet. Gas reported the only reason he used "little al" (bad nickname by the way) was because he was confident the guy couldn't take power- as he was neither particularly smart, tough or respected. Raab reported similarly. I will not even get into what makes him a scumbag (hint they all are)- but bringing his kid into the life (and giving him hits over prison arguments) seems over-the-top. I heard he also brags about his garbage restaurant, etc.

By the way, I am not against reading shit books. Carlo's Gaspipe book was kinda interesting, in the trainwreck sort of way. Good anecdotal family stories i guess, even if it reads like a poorly written childrens book.

Anyways, was there anything interesting while also being true about other mobsters of that period or the family in general?

Should probably ask Mr. Kierney. I guess if you're Italian, you should be in prison.
I've read the RICO Act, and I can tell you it's more appropriate...
for some of those guys over in Washington than it is for me or any of my fellas here

According to the book Dilapi (who Dárco's kid killed) was ordered dead by Gas and Amuso because he didn't come see them after he was called to do so. He had been called in to give an account of his activities and he instead fled to California.

I believe Gotti killed someone for the same reason, for not coming when he was called.

As far as him being someone who was only made acting boss because of lack of stature within the family (and in height) may be possible. But way before he was acting boss he was a made guy and then made capo of the vario crew.

I've read through part of it (up to the point where he becomes acting boss). So far, it's decent in a "someone who was there" sort of way, and D'Arco is credible in the sense that he really doesn't seem to go to any trouble to make himself seem more important than he really was.

Kind of forgettable up to that point, but I'm interested to see if it gets any better when it gets to the testimony stuff. For all his faults as a soldier and acting boss, he was one hell of a prosecution witness, and unlike many of them, genuinely seems to have turned a new leaf.

I thought it was good. Al came off like kind of a low level guy who happened to be there. Certainly wasnt a larger than life figure by any means. But at the end of the day, he got made into the luchese borgota and then made capo of the vario crew.

It was fair, Nicky. And it was well written by two pros. Of course there was some nonsense, but also a lot of truth. Just because a guy's a rat doesn't mean he's lying (well, about everything, anyway).

When you get to the part about Little Jimmy Ida pm me and I'll set things straight for you. Because that's an area where Little Al was talking out of his ass.
