Sorry if this has already been posted but this is an article about Allen Hilf, a high ranking associate of the Detroit LCN who recently died.

I think Scalise mentioned that he died a few weeks back. Thanks for posting the article.

Thanks Nicky and you are right Scalise clocked this one before anyone. Props to Scalise. I was hoping this article might get some feedback from the Detroit posters. I was wondering what impact this will have on Jackie Giacalone's bookmaking operations.

Yeah there's a couple good Detroit posters on here maybe they'll post something. Hilf seemed like a real important guy. Interesting to see that surveillance photo of him. FBI must still have some guys in Detroit doing surveillance.

The Detroit FBI still has a team devoted to "traditional organized crime" in the area as they put it. They seem to be a bit more cautious when it comes to indicting based on past failures such as the Wolverine Gambling indictments (all acquitted), and the underwhelming convictions of Gametax.

These surveillance photo's were probably taken as part of the 2006 gambling bust, where Hilf was an un-indicted co-conspirator. Again, the 2006 bust didn't net any big convictions; Jack Giacalone was acquitted, and Pete Tocco served around 2 years.

Hilf was also connected to the 2008 University of Toldeo point shaving case. Hilf and Giacalone were apparently pulling the strings behind the scenes, and never indicted or mentioned.

"I was hoping this article might get some feedback from the Detroit posters. I was wondering what impact this will have on Jackie Giacalone's bookmaking operations."

Hilf and Giacalone were attached at the hip, especially after Jack's father, Vito Giacalone died. I'm guessing that Hilf's action will largely be transferred to Jack Giacalone. He had one of the biggest books in the country, the Detroit mob certainly isn't going to let that much action disappear.

Was half Detroit street counsler, and if so any thought on his replacement

He was Jackie's man, don't think they will fill that position.

"Street Counselor" is not a real position in the Detroit mob, it's just a way to emphasize how important Allen Hilf was to Jackie the Kid and the Detroit mafia.

So obviously, no one will fill that void.

Here is an article about Anthony "Chicago Tony" Lapiana. This is an old article, but it details a little bit about the white collar scams he was and possibly might still be involved in. I had not heard much about him except through Scott Burnstein, and I thought some people on here might find this interesting. Obviously this is way old news.

Something somewhat more recent (from 2000), a Florida union boss charged with extortion took a flight up to Detroit to have a meeting with Tony LaPiana
http://nlpc.org/stories/2001/11/12/florida-boss-charged-racketeering-embezzlement

Also, in 2004 there was a trial for corruption by the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters union in Detroit. The President was Ralph Mabry, LaPiana was never charged or mentioned in the indictment, but it was strongly suggested he was very tightly connected to the President of the local, and had his hand in the corruption, Mabry was convicted in 2006. The investigation was started to mainly nail LaPiana, who has never been convicted of anything, but they failed to do so.

No problem Scalish. Also thanks for the article Pedasso. It is crazy how these Detroit guys never seem to do any major time. I know there are guys that get convicted and do some time but it does not seem like any administration guys do real time (e.g. Jack Tocco, Chicago Tony, even Jackie Giacalone did not get convicted in the last case).

Hi everyone. Kenji Gallo just wrote a short blurb about the Detroit LCN. He specifically mentions the D'Anna's. Would love to get some feedback on this.

Its not a bad read, i like to read kenjis blog every once in a while. Nothing new here though, pretty much anybody couldve written that after 10 mins of googling the Danna brothers. Im kinda surprised they havent been deported.

Hey Dellacroce I agree with both of your statements. I enjoy Kenji's posts I always have, even going back to his old Hollywood mafia site. I think his assertion that the Detroit family is the most powerful family outside the 5 families and Chicago is a bit of an overstatement. However, I do believe the Detroit Family is in better shape than most people give them credit for.

I am not sure about the D'Anna's immigration situation. Perhaps Pedasso might know if they are full citizens or not.

yeah thats what i was wondering, but seeing that they have been in Detroit since the 90s it would make sense that would be citizens, although it isn't unheard of for immigrants to stay in the US for that long a time(legally) without becoming citizens.

They most likely hold dual Italian American citizenship.

OC-wise: We have yet to see any evidence that links the D'Anna brothers to proper organized crime activities.
The Ventimiglia attack/extortion fiasco doesn't fall in that category.

Gallo's post is a summary of what you can find on them via Google.

That plus his own fantasy world: 50 made men on the streets? Oh please...

I've seen court documents that place Girolamo D'Anna in Michigan since at least 1984. I'm not sure of his brother Giuseppe. For sure they've both been here since the early 90's. I'm certain they are citizens, however I'm not sure if they hold dual citizenship. Considering the amount of time they spend in Sicily, I wouldn't doubt it.

Also regarding their ties to "proper organized crime activities", the upcoming Federal trial focusing on the brothers will show their activity in organized crime in Michigan and Sicily in great detail.
