There's currently a fight going on at my household because I got food from Pizzahut rather then Carmines does that make me less of an Italian?

"Everyone hates on the Olive Garden "

Here's what I never got about the Olive Garden: What the fuck is an Olive Garden? I thought that olives grew in vineyards.

I suffered a similar problem lately when on Burns night the other week being half Scottish, I had to have haggis but instead of going out and catching a live one I just went to the store and bought one.

Nino, I think the problem here is that you are identifying Pizza Hut as Italian. It is not. It is simply American food borrowing an Italian word. Pizza Hut is like ordering a Grilled Cheese sandwich with ketchup on it, so therefore it does not diminish your Italian-ness. You are just lacking in Italian food recognition. A little homework should cure that. wink

If I make a grilled cheese with Muenster am I less of an American?

I'm so confused, I'll be up all night. Thanks, MaryCas.

Muenster, no. Swiss, yes!

Fellas, lets not get carried away here. Grilled Cheese is made with American Cheese, preferably yellow, but white is Ok. Now, PB if you want use Muenster cheese, that is Ok because it is an American cheese, not to be confused with Munster which is a French cheese. But Oli, if you prefer Swiss cheese than you must preface the name of your sandwich as a "Grilled Swiss Cheese Sandwich". These cheesy facts can be found in my book titled,"No Fromunda Cheese, Please."

You're not less of an Italian, you're just an Italian that doesn't understand that quality ingredients is what makes a great pie.

Far from it, didn't mean it like that...just saying that quality homemade ingredients are typically what people look for in a good pizza...every now and then, I love a slice of Papa Johns dipped in garlic sauce....and most of my family makes fun of me for it.

Tough question. Since I do not consider the crap Pizza Hut sells to be Italian food, let alone Pizza, I suppose you could be a real Italian and order it, although I have no clue why anyone would want that crap.

On the other hand if you ordered and ate it, and claim it is Pizza, then you cannot be Italian!

I have Mexican friends that love Taco Bell. But they really don't consider that to be real Mexican food, just like Pizza Hut is not authentic Italian.

Like a dellocroce said it cannot change my ethnicity so I'm still Italian but maybe not a super italian. I also confirmed this with the Sons Of Italy.

Well it's hard to tell given the way you talk about Italians on here. Papa John's eh? I remember they use to give you the peppers and extra peppers on the side which was nice most place with the garlic I felt like I was back in the old country. lol

You better be careful, or maybe might start buying chef Boyardee or Franco- American. Pizza is a matter of personal taste. Often 2 people won't agree on what is good, so you aren't any less of an Italian

One thing I can tell you for certain from experience is that when you are over in Italy, especially in the Napoli region, they take their pizza very seriously and only use fresh herbs and the highest quality ingredients that is typically made from scratch (such as sausage, capicola, cheese, prosciutto, pepperoni, salami). They laugh at how America has "chain" pizza restaurants. When my family comes to America to visit once a year, I always make it a point to take them to the best, privately owned pizza parlors in town because all they do is bitch and moan. Another thing I could tell you for certain is that when I visit Italy, the pizza over there is over the top fantastic, some of the best I've ever had. From the dough (which is homemade) to the last bite of homemade sausage and fresh buffalo mozzarella, it is an entirely different experience. I am a pizza snob and I fancy myself as a pizza connoisseur, as I've had pizza all over the country and from several different regions in Italy as well as Sardinia. While the type of pizza is personal choice (deep dish, NY thin crust, Sicilian, Neapolitan etc), the ingredients and the sauce is what truly makes a pizza taste like heaven. And I will admit that I still love to grab a Papa Johns dipped in garlic and cheese sauce on a drunken night out.

Against my advice, my husband ordered pizza in Rome, and it was the worst pizza we've ever eaten. My husband ordered a sausage pizza and it literally came with what looked like a whole hot dog slapped down in the middle.

Never been to Naples, but I understand that the pizza there is to die for. I've eaten lots in Sicily, and it was all delicious.

My wife visits Rome and Naples and she tells me that there is increasing commercialization in Rome which may account for the bad pizza. She says that while in Naples she almost expects to see Roman legionnaires patrolling the streets.

SB, reminds of a dish I got in Amalfi. I think I ordered calamari and I got a big tentacle on a dish. It looked scary, but tasted good.

We had pizza in Rome a few times and each time it was terrific. You can't be going to Dominoes in Rome. tongue

If you really want great pie in Italy, there are some spots up North, especially in San Marino, there is a place called Ristorante Pizzeria Boschetto. Hands down the best pizza I ever had (in Italy).
