I can see what you mean about it not being whiped out. I guess what I meant was more along the lines of being nothing anymore in the sense that all these younger dont have what it takes in the Omertà department, earning, and loyalty. I'm sure their are some potential up and coming young guys who are gonna be good earners. But selling oxycodone and marijuana is only gonna lead to problems and will be a short lived means of earning. Cause let's face it, all these young guys now a days idea of earning us selling drugs. These young guys do not have what it takes to infiltrate unions, extort money making businesses/people, etc. etc..

Unless they are being directed and mentored by old school guys who will show them how to make moves but I don't feel like theirs many of the old school guys left, and not only in Philly but NY, NJ, and MA too. The only Italian Crime Group in the US that I still see as passing the torch to a new era of young and smart guys is Chicago. I've said it before and ill say it again, Chicago has always and still pretty much does have their shit together. Except for a little hiccup in 2005 called The Family Secrets Trial.

That Nicodemo hasn't flipped already is amazing. Because he is so fucked.
Same can be said for Canalichio.

Maybe they didn't clip johnny gongs after all?

I have noticed for the past year everyone speculating a lot about these people flipping. Is there some reason everyone just assumes they will? Does someone know them or have some type of inside information. I'm just curious because if someone has that type of info I would be interested in seeing it. I'm not being a smart ass either. Anthony Nicodemo has one hell of a reputation around here and I just wonder why these outsiders just assume people will rat. Now people are speculating that they didn't clip someone in the past because they haven't flipped yet, lol.

1. The reason everyone assumes he'll flip because the case is beyond water tight and the only way AN will ever see the light of day through windows without bars is to flip.

2. The Feds are after info on 3 murders occurring on Ligambi's watch: Martorano, Cassanto and Turchi. If AN or DC had info regards these hits, that's their trump card. That they're not playing it is cause for speculation.

IMO it's fair speculation.

I don't think Staino's sentence will be as harsh as others. Younger guy too compared to others. Not sure what happens to him when he gets out if Merlino and Mazzone are still active as i think he was Ligambi's guy.
The Nicodemo and Dame thing is interesting - no doubt Dame gets a harsh term coming ...
Gotta feel bad for Borgesi - if he didn't mess around with Bent Finger he would be out by now I think. He's one to reckon with when he is released ... Plenty of guys in south philly and south jersey will be shaking in their suits

Staino doesn't have a big criminal history so I don't see him getting anywhere that much time.

Maybe everyone is right that the Philly mob doesn't matter anymore,is it me or what but you mean to tell me there is not 1 article about Battaglia's sentence.I mean a mob guy getting 8 yrs. and nothing. What his demeanor in court was, what he said,I don't get it.Yet on Philly.com there's stupid articles about complete nonsense.Maybe it isn't news, seems awful weird.

A little surprised at the Battaglini sentence. He was free on bail throughout the trial I believe? He must have had a few priors? Canalichio is in big trouble. I predicted 12 years, but I'm not sure he doesnt get a few more on top of that. Staino prob gets 5 or so.

I have no idea what to expect with regard to Ligambi and Borgesi this fall. The Feds dont usually make the same mistakes twice in retrials. Should be interesting.

I mean at the time it was obviously a good move because who wants to sit in jail for almost 2 yrs.waiting for a case you think you have a chance to win.But say Staino does get 5 yrs.85% of that would be like around 50 mths.and has of now he would have had credit for another 26.That would leave about 24 mths. or 2yrs.on the table which is not much even for a guy like Staino who hasn't done any real time.but again sitting in jail for 2yrs. and you beat the charge would really suck.I do think he will get more than 5 just because of his position within the organization.I would more like 8-10.

He did but his bail was revoked after Staino took that plea deal.

No i don't think he does get the credit for time served. He wasn't in jail like the other guys. I think the time meter started up on Staino the day he surrendered after he pled guilty.

I'm not 100% on that, but i'm pretty sure thats how it works.

Was he under house arrest? Did he have an ankle bracelet restricting him to his house? If so he might be able to call that time served. But i'm not sure on it.

Your right Bobby it was the day after the verdicts not the day he took the plea deal.

I asked about this before and was told while on house arrest like Staino was it does not count towards his sentence.Just like you say the day he was found guilty is when it started.

That's how the world works. If you're the ruler of a country, you make the laws and the key decisions as well at the end of the day. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, so for mob guys, great mafia leaders who follow the traditional styles of leadership within the mob may be seen as great where as for the drug addicts mother or the sister of a degenerate beat up gambler it's all the mobs fault e.t.c.

If there's one quote I have always liked from the movie Witness to the Mob, it was "when things go good and to plan, things are good...but when you slip up, everything really starts to get fucked up" or something along those lines. I feel this quote can not only be applied to the mob but a lot of things in the dirty side of that whole secretive world.

There was once a law that said somewhere in some godforsaken place that everyone must die at the age of 50. The ruler of this land wasn't that old yet, but when his time came around the law was changed in the click of a finger. I guess what I'm trying to say is that laws, traditions, culture and decisions and so on can be changed when it best suits the majority or whoever is in charge. Back in the 50's-80's, organized crime in general was public enemy number one where as now it's terrorism. Back then, mafia members were probably the worst thing you could have been depicted as, whether you were a loan shark or an illegal bookie. Now it's Terrorists, and being seen to act like a mafia member is now considered cool and suave.

For some people, gambling is a harmless crime, for others it is then worst thing invented, for some, drugs are seen in much the same way and it's the same with loan sharks and anyone else. For the borrower who's business became successful he Thanks the Shark! For the one's who had their business taken over and turned into a brothel curses the loan shark e.t.c. The world will never agree on anything, human beings by nature have their own opinions and will always come into conflict over anything and will usually do anything to improve their own status and limit misery. That's why mob members like to lay low and make money quietly, more money and less heat. That's why some ordinary folk say to lock up criminals for life despite whatever crime they committed, because that helps THEIR situation.

That's why these laws are laid out, for the sociopaths at the top of the world to feel even more secure than they are and also because these laws tend to agree with society as a whole. The majority of people probably would agree with the sentence handed down to Mousie and not think twice about the "Morality" behind it...because everything that is illegal is WRONG and BAD!!! panic

Sorry for the rant but that's my view to why the sentences are what they are and why it may seem outrageous to me and a lot of other people, however to a lot and probably a lot more other people it seems perfectly fine.
