To early to tell in my opinion. Personally, I never really had a high opinion of Girardi as a manager.

Miguel Cabrera had quite a week.

And I was surprised that Joe Maurer has now broken up three potential no-hitters with one out in the ninth.

Very enjoyable series, I am still a bit surprised at the final Mets sweep tally. I attended the Tuesday and Wednesday games, it was great a time especially with the nice weather.

Let's relive the Yankees-Bucs World Series. Was that 60 or 61? From A Bronx Tale. I hate Bill Mazerowski, he made Mickey Mantle cry.

BREAKING NEWS: ESPN is reporting that Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players, including the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, in connection with a performance-enhancing drug scandal at a Miami area clinic.

Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to the Miami-area clinic at the heart of an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun, possibly within the next few weeks, "Outside the Lines" has learned. If the suspensions are upheld, the performance-enhancing drug scandal would be the largest in American sports history.

Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, reached an agreement this week to cooperate with MLB's investigation, two sources told "Outside the Lines," giving MLB the ammunition officials believe they need to suspend the players. One source familiar with the case said the commissioner's office might seek 100-game suspensions for Rodriguez, Braun and other players

It's been since approximately 2005 when baseball started punishing PED/steroid users. Suspensions of 50 (or more) games were levied to some players. I think it's safe to say that suspensions are not really deterring players from using PEDs as evidenced by the repeat offenders.

IMHO, the way to put some teeth into the PED "punishments" is to stop the 50-100 game suspensions. I propose banning first time offenders 6 months from game eligibility and banning the players from anything related to MLB during that 6 months. In other words, they couldn't go to the minors, or be a coach/scout, etc. The player would have no way to be affiliated with MLB for 6 months. If the suspension was implemented in the offseason, the game suspension would be moved forward to the following regular season (including playoffs). More importantly, the player's salary would be docked for 6 months, including all health insurance and medical benefits, along with all travel and per diem perks.

For a 2nd time offender, the player would be banned from anything MLB-related for a period of two years using the same restrictions. If there was a 3rd time offender, then the player would be banned from MLB for life. In addition, the team's owner would be subject to a $2 million dollar fine if a player is banned for life.

Oli, where did you get this quote? The score was 10-9. Maybe it seemed like 10-0. This game is considered one of the greatest every played. Wouldn't rematch be grand!

Last night John Mayberry entered the game as a pinch hitter in the 7th inning, and remained in the game. He ended up hitting a tenth inning homer to tie the game and an eleventh inning grand slam to win it.

It was the 6th time in mlb history that a player hit two extra inning homers in the same game. The last time was in 1987 when Mike Young of the Orioles did it. Before that the speedy Ralph Garr, not known for homers, did it in '73, and Art Shamsky did it for the Reds in '66. I had previously heard about Shamsky's game. Like Mayberry, he entered the game late, but he also hit a homer before extra innings, giving him three for the game.

Mayberry's second homer marked the first time that one of the two homers was a grand slam.

There was no reason to exculpate Braun the first time he faced a suspension for taking a banned substance. The arbitrators took it upon themselves without controlling authority to overrule his suspension on chain of custody grounds. I don't think he'll get aroound this.

Does anyone know how the MLB draft works? What happens if a team drafts a player and then he decides to go the college? For example, the Yankees drafted Andy Pettitte's son Josh but Andy says he's more than likely going to be going to Baylor. Also, the Yankees originally drafted Gerrit Cole but he wound up attending UCLA and was then drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates (he'll be making his debut Tuesday against the Giants). So what happens if a team drafts a player and he decides to attend college instead?

If you're drafted, then for a year that team owns your draft rights. If draft pick doesn't sign a contract, then he can go back into future drafts.

Remember that John Elway once upon a time was the Yankees' top draft pick one year, but he decided to play football instead. (He used baseball as leverage to get the Colts, who drafted him, to trade him away.)

Occasionally the idea of allowing baseball teams to trade draft picks gets floated around. I'd like to see it done. Anyone here know why baseball does not allow it?
