Apparently if the Outfit ever knocks down anyone ever again, they will "disappear." I suppose all that means is, due to the consequences, they are putting a great deal more emphasis on making sure the bodies are never discovered.

Did you guys read the ANP post about Anthony Cattalano and Michael DeFilippis?

No body, no crime.

Seems to me that the mob just has gotten smarter and is one step ahead of the game. Also remember that the Feds never arrest anyone overnight. They continue to build as much as evidence as they can over a period of time.

Look at the ICEMAN. He went years before they busted him.

Look at Tommy Pitera.

Those are just two examples.

Hypothetically right now the Feds could be having a meeting talking about people that are missing. We don't have a clue going on. What if there are bodies popping up somewhere that we don't know about? Anything is possible. We could see another big trial within the next 5-10 years. Anything is possible.

It's possible but if they were making known mob-affiliated guys disappear, it would likely find its way into the paper etc.

This stuff tends to sell a lot of newspapers and reporters jump on anything even remotely connected to organized crime.

Almost all mob hits today are just them "disappearing". With all the DNA evidence and technology, it doesn't make sense to do public hits like they used to. Look what happened when they did in Philly.

Mob killings where they make the body disappear are still very much in the minority. Only a few of them in the last 15 years or so - Ralph Coppola, Nick Cirillo, Tony Zizzo, etc.

Nobody did it like Demeo and the boys when it came to making a body go bye bye.

Yeah, this. I don't know how many times I've seen in the media claims that "mob hits today are much more careful, with victims typically disappearing for good". I don't think the Outfit making one guy vanish is indicative of a trend. It kind of reminds me of the whole "the Outfit is still killing lots of people but they farm the hits out to street gangs" thing.

Speaking of this, are there more murders in the mob today than we are led to believe? The recent hit by Anthony Nicodemo ( assumed ) was the first hit in Philly since 2004 I think I read.

The last known hit in NYC was Anthony Seccafico in 2009. Is it the case Ivy, or others who know more than me, that there hasn't been a hit carried out by the five families in New York in 3 and a half years? Or does this then add fire to the notion that alot of hits are now underground/hidden from view?

I think little anthony was the last made guy to get hit in NY. But connected guys get killed more regularly. Not everyday occurances, but still.

I think that was a drug loan gone wrong. But yes you're correct on that. No doubt these families still bust heads, just not as often as they used to

The last known mob hit besides Zizzo was on the Hatch, reportedly done by some low rent goofball named Anthony Calabrese who is now in jail for 60 some years for a string of burglaries.

But that is certainly not the first time the Outfit has had some sucker do their dirty work; far from it.

Yeah didnt he borrow it off the bonannos for some heroin. think that they did it or they got permission from the genovese. Or he could have just been robbed by the people he was buying the drugs from or he tried to rip them off and they made an example of him. I mean why bludgeon them to death.

Are we talking just the States? Because in Montreal bodies have been coming up everywhere the last few years.

That happened in NYC, yes. Of course, you had Montagna killed later on but that was up in Montreal.

You're talking about Louis Antonelli. He was not paying tribute to Anthony Antico and ended up being killed in the robbery.

Ivy do you think their are hits and disappearences we don't hear about? I'll be the first to say the mob doesn't whack someone out of the blue becauses it brings heat, but the list seems too short.

Actually, a lot of people have been surprised by how long the list is, since there's the impression that mob hits are almost unheard of nowadays. Maybe "big name" hits but, as the list shows, there's several others that involve minor figures; some not really so much mob-related as personal beefs involving mob figures.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'd venture to say the list is pretty inclusive. It's certainly possible there are some that don't make the news but, if there's any type of mob connection, the press will usually jump on that and report it.

If anything, I'm probably missing others that are similar to the first two guys named. They were young kids involved in Galione's drug ring that ended up dead and dumped on the street.
