Earlier this week watching this documentary about the gambinos they talk about "Tony Roach" I mean I wasn't born yet in 74" but wouldn't they clip that guy for being a heroin addict. I mean he was an associate, I don't follow NYC as close thought someone might offer some insight. Gotti's crew was involved with that he was probably their point man moving it I'm assuming..

He was NOT an informant, that was willie boy johnson who was whacked after it came out. Rampino died recently in the can, took his sentence without a problem.

If I recall correctly, Rampino was nailed by law enforcement for heroin, and held for a period of time and then released. There was wide speculation among the Gotti crew (and probably others) that he was informing, because he got out.

I think it is described in the Capeci book, but law enforcement used this tactic to try to flip him.

He did more than 20 years for heroin trafficking and died in jail, no rat indeed.

I know what TonyG is referring to when he says Tony Roach came close to ratting; in Capeci's book about Gotti (Mob-Star; The Rise and Fall) he describes Rampino floating the idea to a couple of agents during an arrest that resulted in a lengthy detainment and subsequent heroin withdrawl. In a panic, Rampino is alleged to have offered up knowledge of Gotti's routines and links to his brothers heroin operations.

After the agents refused to comply with his demands in exchange, he balked and backed out.


The whole Rampino thing is just another example of Gotti's hypocrisy.

I guess that before he really got addicted to heroin, Tony was a bad ass and Gotti used him to collect debts. He had aa very intidating look to him that scared many into paying up. A very good buddy of mine was a correction officer and had Rampino under his watch. He did have problems in prison for drugs. He tried to get his sentence reduced due to health issues, but the judge refused and he died in prison

I spoke to my friend again. He was at Wende state prison in Alden NY and now said that Tony Roach Rampino did NOT have drug incidents while in his watch and in fact was very polite and respectful toward the guards. Also there was Jimmy Burke. My friend said that both of these men as well as all mob guys rarely ever caused any problems
