after looking into the current state of LCN in america, i was wondering as to which lcn family still has more pull overall compared to just the genovese family operations in new jersey? if i was to guesss i would say that outside of NY, only chicago, new england, and philly even compare with the nj faction of the genovese family, with only chicago and maybe NE comparing in scope. i thought that this thread would serve to prove that lcn outside the northeast has fallen while at the same time showing that lcn, particularily the genovese family, have proven to be a stable and powerful criminal force both locally and nationaly within north america.

I don't think of the LCN of being "national" in scope anymore. Upwards of 90% of the LCN's approx. 1,000 members are in the northeast. Except for it's sports betting networks extending out to Nevada, Arizona, California, etc., it's almost non-existent in the west. And in the south all you really have is crews from the NY families in the Miami/south Florida area. Chicago and maybe Detroit are the only families in the midwest that could still be considered viable.

I basically look at it as the 5 families in the greater NY metro/tri-state area. Plus 3 smaller families "orbiting" them in New England, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. And a 4th small family in Chicago.

great feedback as always. maybe i should have used a different word instead of "national". looking back, i should have said "regional powerhouse", as other than a few guys here and there, NY has almost nothing going on outside of the northeast, and south florida to a lesser extent.

I think that's what misleads a lot of people. In many places, the mob is extinct. But not in Chicago and the northeast; especially New York.

Does Cleveland have any kind of family structure left?

No. There's only about 10 or so made guys left in Cleveland. Most of them pretty old and some of them in prison.

The NJ Genovese are like a very influential crew/small family in themselves, much like the Jersey Crew of the Lucchese family was back in the day before Casso wanted to whack them all.

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife?
Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

Great exchange of posts as usual, Ivy.

Basically there are 7 La Cosa Nostra families in New Jersey. The five New York families, the DeCavalcante's and the remnants of South Philly mob.

The Genovese's have often been dubbed by the media and other sources as the most prominant family in New Jersey. Whilst the other families don't compare in shear size or influence.

It's why they've been called "The West Side," as they've been based more in Manhattan, the Bronx, and New Jersey than in Brooklyn, Queens, etc. like the other families.

Oh I see, you're counting the retired/jailed people. My bad.

Pretty sure Nick Nardi was never made. I'll check.

Yeah, I always count total made members. Not that it really makes a difference as far as Cleveland is concerned.

I'm not sure but I would imagine so.

No, I haven't seen any estimates for associates there. And there probably isn't any since there's no formally structured, viable family there anymore.

i was thinking that they would be harder to identify seeing as they are spread so thin running all of ohio, western pa, and west virginia smile

Cleveland never had anyone in Western PA or West Virginia (Pittsburgh had some people around Wheeling a long time ago). There's not even anyone left in Youngstown or the Mahoning Valley and there hasn't been any Cleveland family people there since the 80s (unless Orlie Carabbia counts - I believe he lingered for some time after his brother was murdered and the other was sent to jail for 20+ years).

All that's left of the Cleveland family is probably concentrated in Greater Cleveland, and they were never close to controlling even half of Ohio, much less "all of" it. They were concentrated in the Northeast quarter of the state, with nothing in Cincinnati or Columbus. They did have some far-flung interests in Vegas and maybe elsewhere.

i hope you know i was kidding, thought the smiley face gave that away, although i did mix up cleveland and pittsburg with regards to territory in west virginia.

Oh okay, haha - I was actually dumb enough to think you were serious. My bad.

That was a pretty decent impersonation of a Cleveland mob cheerleader though!
