yeah he looks about 18. Its pretty crazy that he seemed to have a storied and historic life in the mob and he still was only 28 when he died. Most mobsters just start out being small associates at that age

Those are great, Ciment. Thanks. Those guys look completely different in color. You'd think the whole world was in black and white in those days.

Thanks for the link Ciment

Here is a link from that source that has a few more color pictures. Luciano in 1931, Whitey Bulger in 1959, and the Kray twins at Reggie Krays wedding as well as a few others.

When my son was younger he asked me if the world was black and white back then. I had to explain the difference between black and white tv's to what we have today. lol

Dixie, I still see some old school motels that advertise "Color TV". They're all over the LA area, actually.

What's up with the shoes? A Don shouldn't be wearing Velcro sneakers. But that thing on his arm might not be a tattoo. Just some kind of injury. The shoes are make me question the pics authenticity.

That seems to be late in Luciano's life, in Italy. Considering his limited mobility due to constant surveillance at that time, it's plausible he'd go casual with his wardrobe. Flashiness was never his style. He wanted authorities to think he was just an old guy retiring. He's looking the part.

If that article is correct and he got those tattoos in 1913, then the fact that he got the nicknamE lucky in 1929 is fiction.

That is 100% Lucky Luciano and he did have tattoos.

This is a quote from Lucky Luciano: The Real and the Fake Gangster by Tim Newark.

"The FBI gave a physical description of Luciano in 1947 as five feet nine and three-quarter inches tall, 145 to 150 pounds, slim, wavy, heavy dark brown hair turning gray, dark chestnut eyes, and tattooed on both arms.

Supposedly one of his tattoos said 'Lucky'

You would think a stone gangster like Sonny Franzese would disown his son if he ratted, which Michael did.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

I've never believed that Meyer gave him that name after surviving that beating and stabbing.

In fact the next day after the beating in the New York Times, they described him as "Charles 'Lucky' Lucania.

It makes you wonder how much is true in regards to what the "experts" say. Because that story about the nickname is as well known as Rothstein fixing the world series.
