Mario Puzo's untimely death brings down part four...

Mario Puzo's untimely death brings down part four... - 09/14/02 09:52 PM

I don't know if this was brought up here before, seeing as I don't come to this thread much... But, I heard that Coppola and Puzo were working on the Godfather Part Four script... But, then Puzo died and Coppola said he didn't want to continue without Puzo. We would'a had a part four if he didn't die! Oh, rats...

It was going to be based on Michael, Sonny, Connie, Fredo, and Tom's childhood... That's what I heard.

Hi,
Why not get Martin Scorsese? After all Mario Puzo wrote the first book. GF2 was a combination of what Mario wrote in the first book and what was written for the second picture. Finally I am sure that he didn't write GF3.

Yeah, but... That's why the third didn't match the first two. I don't think it'd be the same without Mario!

I don't think FFC would ever want to work on a Godfather story without Mario. To me it's 100% sure part IV is out of the question. Even if Paramount want it too happen, no actor/writer/diretor would want to participate. Even so, if they wanted too, Paramount f*cked up themselve in the mid-nineties being a pain in the Coppola-Puzo ass when negotiating a part IV (Puzo was writing the script in the early nineties, so it could have been filmed already by then)

Now Mario died It´s unlikely that there will be a The Godfather IV. If Coppola would continue without Puzo the movie woulden´t be as good as the other three parts. Maybe it would be better that Coppola woulden´t make a part IV.

I wouldnt like a part 4.
The goodfather is a classic.
If we come back to it years and years after even the last installment was done its gonna b differnt and mayb even ruin the name.
I think they went as far with it as they could.
Its time to let go of the godfather, its completed and a damn good film, i mean wats gonna happen in there childhood??
we need a new mafia movie instaid on prt 4.

You said the same thing three times in arow and you couldnt spell The Godfather right once!

Don't be a "Wiseguy"

Part IV is about The 1930's and the 1980's

Simple as that.

Well kept secret...Until Now...Turnbull's Age is higher than his post count!

Re: Mario Puzo's untimely death brings down part four... - 01/27/03 12:37 PM

Personally speaking, I'd rather see a GOOD adaptation of Lorenzo Calcatera's ('scuze the spellin') GANGSTER than watching a GF4.

Looking at recent movies, I don't think that any existing actor (those who had participated in the trilogy) can match their performances in the previous parts [of course I only mean the good actors].

I heard Paramont & random House publishers are conducting a serach as we speak for someone to write GF IV. AS to the question of who would direct it? Did FFC say he wouldn't do another one?

Yet again he was pretty much against doing a third film. Who knows?!

If anyone in the world is capable of a great performance, it is Al Pacino. Seeing as Michael is dead, he would be useless...unless he is in flashback sequences. If GF 4 is made, I hope to God he has some parts - HE IS THE GODFATHER!

Andy Garcia, who would be the star, is also a fine actor (watch Ocean's Eleven to see his best Michael Corleone impression).

As far as the "Young Sonny" rumors concerning DiCaprio, screw them. Have James Caan's son play the part. He may not have had a serious role yet, but he'd be believable as Santino.

Re: Mario Puzo's untimely death brings down part four... - 01/29/03 02:14 PM

I read years ago that the only reason Coppolla even consented to GF3 was because he hadn't had a hit since Apocalypse Now, and Paramount's money offers became harder and harder to resist. Do you believe this?

Re: Mario Puzo's untimely death brings down part four... - 01/29/03 08:27 PM

I can't believe this topic is still going on! I started this before I left a while ago.

And, about FFC making The Godfather, Part III for another hit and money... Although I definately wouldn't doubt it, it still wouldn't be my number one belief.

To bring another Godfather into our world is a ottuso idea. Without the magic of Puzo and Coppola it will be l'immondizia. I personally say "no" to the idea.

Thank you all for your time.
