Why is the mob so much more glamorous in movies?i

I know this may seem like a question that gets asked quite a bit, but..........

Just wondering why this is.

Watch a mob film, it makes you want to be one of them. You sit back and you go "That guy is cool. He dresses well, has nice hair, takes care of himself."

Then pay attention to the scum that is involved in REAL Life. The people , how they dress, how fat they are, how fucking ugly. It makes you shake your head and go "WTF would I want to be working with that guy for?"

Now grant it, there are guys that look cool such as John Gotti. But lets be honest for example the movie Goodfellas all the characters in that film such as Hill and Vario were ugly as fuck and slobs.

But Hollywood makes them seem the exact opposite than how they really were. Vario looked like a fucking fat tub of lard with bad hygiene and vomit for breath who sits on his computer watching child porn, and Hill just looked like some degnerate loser who lived on the streets who hadnt showered in a week.

First of all any movie does that, no one wants to look at ugly people all through a movie. Second, Tony Soprano and Silvio were ugly and uglier, so were other in the cast, with a few good lookers thrown in, Henry Hill was a rat, he had the best looking actor play him, In The Goddfather, you had Abe Vigoda, Clemenza, and Fredo----not a good looking one in that group. Michael Corleone (Pacino) and Sonny "James Can) were more the exception than the rule. Al Littieri? God help us! As for Vario, while Pau Sorvino looked better, he wasn't in the movie much, the rest of that cast was average looking seen at best.

Tony Soprano made himself attractive due to his charisma and yes he was a good dresser most of the time. Paulie Walnuts same thing and Id say Albert Barese was the best looking guy but unfortunately the actor that played him got busted for drug dealing so his character in the show was cut short. Like I said before in real life most mob guys are uglier than shit with a few exceptions that actually give a fuck about taking care of themselves and their appearance. Usually see these guys in the New York families compared to other parts of the country.

If that is your opinion then fine. Keep in mind most police chiefs don't look like Tom Selleck, Frank Serpico did not look like a young Al Pacino, and all movies tend to cast good looking people. As I said, look at Donnie Brasco, Johnny Depp was an FBI agent, few look as good as him. All the wise guys were not good looking in that film. You're getting all worked up over nothing. Relax, and watch Joe Sinelli play Willy Chi Chi in The Godfather, unless you think he was handsome.

Ok so since we are on the subject, name me some guys off the top of your head or that you have seen before who had Hollywood good looks. Could be from any era of the mob such as today or from 100 years ago.

Lol it's called "movie magic" for a reason. Have you ever come across known actors in real life? Literally nobody looks as impressive and larger than life in real life as they look on the big screen.
Also bear in mind that when people get busted the police isn't going to wait until they're looking dapper and all dressed up for the occasion. Many times people get lifted from their beds while they're still sleeping. Now I'm not a bad looking guy (or so I've been told) but when I take a look at myself after I just woke up and got out of bed, I think I look like about 99% of the people out there: like a sorry sack of shit.

You make some good points. For example a makeup artist to make your skin as perfect as possible and the correct lighting to make your suits and clothes look amazing is something that Hollywood is geniuses at doing.

The Bonannos are definitely the best dressed. To me it's the only family that actually makes an effort when it comes to dressing and being mobsters. The rats like to badmouth them, but that's only because they're miserable rats with no balls and no fashion sense
