Do made guys even get shown respect anymore?? - 03/19/24 04:20 PM

Compared to say the 1960s or 1970s?

If you were made, would a restaurant even know who the fuck you were or if they did would they even give a shit really? Know what I am saying?

Its sad to think that most restaurants since they are now owned by corporations, I really don't even think they would want mob guys frequenting the place.

Discuss.

It’s a good thing if they don’t know who you are. Wtf does a restaurant owner need to know you’re a criminal for lol

Well there are small family owned restaurants still that mob guys go to because they get excellent service and hospitality.

It depends on where you are and who you are. Is Michael Mancuso gonna get a table right away at certain establishments in the Bronx? Yes

Even in the present day, there are plenty of people from all walks of life who are enamored with mobsters. I don't know why some people are surprised, but I even know of a situation where someone got the all-star treatment because he looked like a mobster. Whether you like it or not, Hollywood has effectively glorified the mafia

This is all true and some of these guys lap up the attention. But considering most guys are well documented publicly about who they are, anyone who can go to a restaurant or wherever and be unknown must be a good thing. Unless they want the attention

Imagine Barney everywhere he goes someone is gonna recognize him and be whispering, must be such a fucking nuisance lol

Most nice restaurants (as you are probably aware) have a couple private dining rooms and an entrance that the general public never uses. I imagine when Barney goes out to eat, they allow him to come through a special set of doors that is only reserved for employees. If he doesn't want to be seen he won't be.

Funny story I would like to share...

My father was out to eat at a nice establishment in the city and this crazy bitch was stalking him. As he was sitting down to dinner with his wife, the bitch found him and started knocking on the window. My father didn't have any plans that night to eat in some private room, but it ended up that way. The owner saw what happened to him and found him a secret spot where he wouldn't be bothered again. The security escorted the psycho off the premises and told her if she comes back she would be arrested. Luckily she listened.

There's always a secret hideaway they can place people in if necessary when out to eat.

No way they have been glorified by Hollywood, they have been torn apart by movies. Goodfelllas was one big F.U. to gangsters. The rats get glorified.

Most Italians and people in general are not fans of guys in real life that are connected. Many disown their own family members if they get involved with mobsters even if they just associate with them and build friendships. I've seen it happen first hand.

They think guys who are mobsters and the people that associate with them are scumbags.

The episode in the Sopranos where they were all sitting around the dinner table ripping Doctor Melfe the entire time for simply agreeing to take Tony on as a client is just how it is in real life. They are very bigoted against Mob guys.

That honestly depends on the environment you're in. I frequent quite some "blue collar" places over where I live - which is a former mining region on the country border with big Italian, Turkish, Greek, Moroccan, Albanian and Dutch Traveller communities - and a lot of people (especially young guys) are going out of their way to associate themselves with known gangsters. Law abiding family members of gangsters may not agree with the criminal lifestyle but still flaunt their family connections with at least some kind of pride.

Even though movies and shows basically always tell you that the criminal lifestyle never ends well, the allure of gangsters is huge.

Bingo! People are never turned off by the way these movies end. If anything, it adds to the excitement of that life. It's a twisted psychology

I think there is still some kind of "made guy effect".

John Pennisi said that when words got around that he has been made, many people will come to him with requests and propositions. A lot of it were ridiculous stuff like a soccer mom who asked him to have a women beat up because of an argument they had at a soccer game.

In the 60's, 70's and 80's you could get killed for disrespecting a made guy and even today I bet beating are still handed out when appropriate.

It's a whole different world tan many keyboard guys here are familiar with
