Sam Carlisi - 03/12/24 12:55 PM

How did he end up in Chicago? He was born and raised in Buffalo, and his older brother was a high ranking member in the Buffalo family. Curious how he made his way into The Outfit?

The earliest records which I have for the Carlisi clan are from 1937 and 1947....

From 1937...

....and from 1947....the southern part of Cicero was controlled by Aiuppa and Carlisi was one of his underlings...

Since the 1910's and early 20s, the Chicago mob under Colosimo and Torrio, allegedly had ties to Buffalo NY. One example was already shown in one of the forum threads regarding one Tom "Tommy the Wop" Fusco being brought from Buffalo to Chicago regarding the execution of Mossy Enright. Fusco was allegedly brought by one of Colosimo's enforcers in the union biz, Mike Carrozzo.

So it is possible that one part of the Carlisi clan arrived in Chicago through that same connection and its quite interesting that Carlisi "coincidentally" ended up under the old Torrio/Capone crew which during the 30's, 40's and 50's one part from that same group was headed by Ralph Capone, Claude Maddox and Joey Aiuppa (Carlisi's predecessor).

There were several Outfit guys who were born in the East and moved to Chicago with their families as young kids. Felix Alderisio for example, was born in the Bronx and his father (Dominic) was a Genovese associate at one point.

Forgot about Alderiso. Obviously, Lou Eboli too.

Re: Sam Carlisi - 03/14/24 08:15 PM

Eboli was born in NYC - his mother moved back to Melrose Park and I pointed this out years ago when she died but she noted she was married to Tommy Ryan in her obituary and kept his last name. She also lived to 101 and outlived both of her sons. I was friendly with Louie's brother - Tommy - someone once asked if his Dad was a 'boss of bosses' and he said 'I barely knew him.' I've always wondered whether Tommy Ryan sent his wife and boys away to live in Chicago because NYC was dangerous for him - or whether he just marriage issues.

Good info. Lou Eboli has always been kind of fascinating character within the Outfit to me. It's a bummer there isn't more information about him.

No, he was born in Melrose Park. What makes you say he was born in NYC?

Rushstreet let's stop trying to instigate stuff. As far as I'm concerned I'm just asking a question. People on here already too defensive and aggressive when simple questions are asked or corrections are thrown out.

Re: Sam Carlisi - 03/14/24 09:59 PM

I think saying people here are too defensive is a bit of a stretch. You've had issues with certain people here, and from what I have gathered, it goes back to another OC forum. Not sure what that's about and I personally have no issues with you. But you do have a tendency to come off as incredibly smug and condescending here at times. Obviously, it's an internet forum, so reading into tone and whatever is impossible, so maybe I'm wrong to say that! You are obviously informed, and know your stuff. But you do come off like an asshole at times.

To answer your question about his birthplace, there is Sun Times article about him from when he passed that says he was a NY native who grew up in MP. May not be true, and you might have a better source on his birthplace. Either way he definitely spent some time in NY so kinda just feels like were arguing semantics. Anyway, be well!

Nicely said @BigTuna. There are always consequences for their own and previous actions.
