Times when extortion failed. - 01/22/24 07:00 PM

So we know the mob is a big fan of extorting people. Just going after them if they know they have $$$.

Today in the computer age I am sure online extortion happens quite often. If you go online you can find peoples personal info quite easily, phone numbers and even their home addresses.

Say I got a guy who I want to extort. I can try to blackmail him with false accusations such as "If you don't give me the $$$ I'm gonna come to your house, and hunt you down. I also will let your wife know that you are gay and like sucking dick while I rape her and make you watch!"

Name some times that extortion didn't work and the guy who they were extorting said "Go fuck yourselves" and ended up coming out the victor. Refusing to give in to their lies, manipulation, intimidation and bullshit.

I dont know if the following case falls in this category but still, the Mob wasnt able to extort the victim and also to receive their interests, and in the end they had to make an example.

Leo Foreman was a Chicago convicted swindler, bondsman and president of the LeFore Insurance company. He was an aggressive monster of a man, six feet and two inches tall and 270 pounds with horrible Outfit connections like Mad Sam DeStefano, Phil Alderisio and Chuck Nicoletti. After a while, Alderisio walked in Foreman’s office and opened a dispute. In rage Foreman pulled out a gun and pointed it at Alderisio and told him to back off. Alderisio just smiled and told him “We’ll see about that” and walked out of the office. That was strike three. When Nicoletti heard about the bad news he calmly ordered to DeStefano to go and see Foreman and to take care of the problem in “Action Jackson” style. When DeStefano went to Foreman’s office, DeStefano went into a rage and started cursing him. With this Foreman again pulled a gun and kicked DeStefano out of his office. On November 13, 1963 Nicoletti appeared at Foreman’s house and advised him that DeStefano was ready to let bygones be bygones, if Foreman helped fence a diamond theft and paid back his debt. So on November 14, Foreman was lulled into a basement were he was shot in his legs by Mario DeStefano, Chuckie Crimaldi and Tony Spilotro. Foreman was lying on the floor crying in pain and suddenly Mad Sam appeared, dressed in pajamas, and went to work. Before the torture, Mad Sam told Foreman that he was going to be a blood sacrifice to Satan. After being viciously tortured for hours, DeStefano shot Foreman in the head. Foreman's face was frozen with some type of grin which again made Mad Sam quite angry. In the end Foreman’s body was stuffed into the trunk of a car which was found few days later.

I would say that extortion attempts are just as common if not more common than successful extortions, you can't win'em all.

Today extortion is common in which in exchange for a large sum of money the victim must pay to dont have her naked photos posted on the internet or while having sex with her ex, who is generally the one who carries out the extortion.

Jimmy Marcello's father wound up in a barrel sawed in half. Sam Rantis was the guy they were extorting - a greek guy who said fuck this.

Jimmy Coonan and Mickey Spillane?

They kidnapped coolant dad, an accountant, for some ransom. Apparently very common back then. For an unknown reason they beat him pretty bad. A few years later Spillane was dead and NY had the Westies.

Spillane was the name, right?

So the Greek guy ended up actually cutting up the extortionist?

Yes Sam Rantis shot Sam Marcello and another goon with him when they came to collect - then he cut up both bodies and stuffed them in barrels in the back room of his sandwhich shop. Rantis was killed soon after. I've seen photos of the barrels on the old real deal - the legend was that Jimmy Marcello made his bones on Rantis. Probably didn't happen but one of those stories I would love to learn more about (probably never will).
