That's pretty big news. They say he was active in his final years

The Americans were kept informed of everything in Sicily. Last August, Giovan Battista Badalamenti revealed about his brother Martino to John Jack D'Amico , regent of the Gambino family until 2008: "No, in the evening he even goes to sleep inside ", updating D'Amico on his brother's state of imprisonment.

Was a very interesting mobster. Was a high ranking member and close to the Gotti’s but didn’t seem he had that ruthless/violent reputation as a lot of guys around them did at that time

He was more of a racketeer than a guy like Gotti. Just went about his crews business and was involved in things that would lead to very little prison time.

This I highly doubt, especially today. Please provide sources for this claim if you can. People also need to remember that Jackie's crew was mostly Sicilian. For him to meet with the Sicilians on their home turf was no surprise

Everything is compartmentalized, in some cases with some crews he has a point, in most cases it's not so. To be honest if the mob remained as close to Italy as some believe they'd be in better shape.

MAFIAS
Here is the axis between the Sicilian clans and the Gambinos again: 17 arrested between Palermo and New York. Messina Denaro also appears in the interceptions

by Manuela Modica | NOVEMBER 8, 2023
“Because… we must give people ' security ' my brother…”, Frank Vicari spoke clearly , in a series of conversations held in 2020 with Gabriele Vito Rappa , son of the more well-known Frank , and considered by the US authorities to be an affiliate of the US mafia . A "security", against a monthly payment of 6 thousand euros , to guarantee entrepreneurs subject to their control. A series of conversations that were transmitted by the American authorities to Italy, and from which emerges "not only the inclusion of the same interlocutors in a criminal organization, stable and with a top-down structure, operating in New York to be identified in the historic Gambino family - they write the investigators in the request for arrest - but also the ability of today's suspect Frank Rappa to intervene for the benefit of the American associates, through his emissaries, in an affair with a clear extortion motive".

Mafia affairs between Sicily and the United States , also thanks to import-export activities , while the Americans were kept informed of everything. Last August, Giovan Battista Badalamenti revealed about his brother Martino to John Jack D'Amico , regent of the Gambino family until 2008: "No, in the evening he even goes to sleep inside ", updating D'Amico on his brother's state of imprisonment . A mix of American and Italian that reveals the mafia ties between Sicily and the USA . A direct thread that today links 17 precautionary measures , taken between Palermo and New York . At 4 in the morning in the Big Apple, at 10 in the Sicilian capital, mafia members on both sides of the pond were handcuffed. An operation by the FBI and SCO of Rome , coordinated by the Palermo prosecutor Maurizio De Lucia , the deputy Marzia Sabella and the deputy Giovanni Antoci . A direct line between the two worlds that takes us back to the investigations that the head of the Palermo mobile Boris Giuliano conducted in the Seventies and to the famous Pizza Connection and Iron Tower investigations . Today's investigation concerns the mafia families of Partinico , Borgetto and Torretta . Torretta was the protagonist in the 1980s in the Pizza Connection investigation conducted by Giovanni Falcone which revealed the relationships between the mafias of the old and new continent.

They are clearly using that term very loosely. "Everything" in this context might only mean any high-level matter that relates directly to the Gambino family. And I would even question that. So much of this is as Liggio said, "compartmentalized", and the Sicilians are notorious for being very secretive

The craziest thing about him to me is that he was probably the only guy who was seen with Gotti on a regular basis that never did super hard jail time. Pretty much all of Gotti's closest circle did life or extreme time in jail. Aside from that, the guy is taking thousands of stories to the grave with him. Was around for a lot of different bosses over the years and can only imagine the things he saw and the people he was around. RIP to one of the last of the "old school."

Could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty certain he was straightened out before the closed the books in the late 50's too, which would indicate he was around for everything from Anastasia to present. If I'm off on this, my apologies!

Re: Jackie D'Amico Dead - 01/03/24 01:23 AM

I have never seen him listed in any old reports from the pre1970', I think he was made around 1980 going by everything I have ever seen on him. I have always wondered how he wound up with the Ozone Park crew. I think he was made with a different crew (Just an assumption) and eventually transferred over, or was taken in by Gotti due to their being friends. They were opposites in many ways, maybe that is what made them close friends. Gotti seemed like a gangster, D'Amico didn't. I also think D'Amico had legitimate work at times, while Gotti never did.

Not many are left from the 80s Danny Marino, Nicholas Corozzo are still around I believe.

Jackie actually grew up on the lower east side of Manhattan. 1st, second, 3rd ave. I think Joe Piney was from that area as well.

@BigTuna93

Jackie was most likely made in the late 1970's or early 1980's..

He was too young to be around the Anastasia era...

What rackets was he into? I heard he was a huge gambler.

Re: Jackie D'Amico Dead - 01/04/24 03:55 PM

You mean his crew? I doubt Jackie Nose did much of anything himself. He was described as a brokester, but if that's the case someone else must've bought his wardrobe because he was always dressed to the nines.

Ah gotcha. What did his crew do?

Re: Jackie D'Amico Dead - 01/04/24 05:42 PM

Loansharking, extortion, illegal gambling, and labor racketeering in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. Seems to be a bread-and-butter type of guy, not much into drugs. Also seemed to be more of the gentleman type, though I didn't know him personally.
