I happen to completely agree with you BigTuna. IMO (in both our opinions), Glimco was one of the most important, yet underrated members of the Chicago Crime Family.

He was the most important labor-union racketeer within the entire Chicago Outfit. Furthermore, they considered Glimco to be their "labor union expert" and go-to guy for all things related to labor union corruption, infiltration, and manipulation. Beyond that, he was utilized as the Outfit's primary linchpin and contact man to other labor unions, labor officials, and top Mafia-connected labor racketeers in other Families throughout the entire United States...Now thats saying something! In fact, thats REALLY saying something! Lol

Besides Taxicab Drivers Union, Local #777 for which he served in an official capacity as "assistant business agent," over the years Joey Glimco controlled a bevy of other Chicago-based locals for Outfit bosses such as the Teamsters and the Restaurant & Bartenders International Union through President Ed Hanley, who was well known to be under the dominion and control of the Chicago Mob.

While Bobby Kennedy went after the whole mob, Glimco was one of the fellas that was high on his list. Which tells me that he was a heavyweight.

Very much so BT. Kennedy (and other investigators) over the years broke Glimco's balls too. But he managed to pretty much successfully duck all attempts to thwart his underworld power and influence (and stranglehold over the labor movement).

He died in bed with his shoes off...

In gangland, thats called success!

No doubt! Joey Glimco was deceptively powerful. I always heard about him and knew he was strong in Chicago's taxi union, Local #777. But when I did a dive to research him for a bio, it really opened my eyes to his true power and influence.

Lot of tough guys came up under Glimco including Crackers Mendino and the Senese brothers. Dominic Senese was a power house who inherited a lot of Glimco's original rackets.
