Joe Gernie was one of those mob guys whose story has fallen through the cracks of mob history. Not only was he described as an “important figure” in narcotics trafficking and union racketeering on the NY-NJ waterfront for the Genovese mob, but he was also known as a dangerous strong arm working under Genovese capo, then underboss, Anthony (Tony Bender) Strollo. Gernie didn’t have a happy ending, but sometimes in the underworld, what goes around comes around – even if you’re six feet under.

Mayhem...murder...karma...and even a Frank Sinatra movie...what was supposed to be just a little snapshot bio turned into so much more. Who knew? lol.

Exactly. Lol. I was actually surprised that the Joe Gernie article turned into such a deep and extensive full-blown biography of his life. Because you said you were just composing a quick "Racketeer Snapshot" of him.

But it came out very good. So my compliments to the chef! Lol.

He was definitely a close associate of Tony Bender and other top guys. Thats for shit sure. (until he got clipped that is). Lol
