Famous Chicago Mob Rat, Nick Calabrese, Cashes In Chips From WitSec, Fmr. Outfit Button Took Down Three Of Windy City’s Biggest Wiseguys

https://gangsterreport.com/famous-c...n-three-of-windy-citys-biggest-wiseguys/

March 13, 2023 — The man who brought the Chicago mafia to its knees, former Outfit soldier and hit man Nick (Nicky Slim) Calabrese, died this week at the age of 80 in the Witness Protection Program. Calabrese was the only “made” man in Windy City mob history to take the stand against the Outfit.

Calabrese’s cooperation with the FBI led to the groundbreaking Operation Family Secrets case, a 2005 indictment, nailing 14 Chicago mobsters for 18 different gangland homicides. His subsequent testimony at the 2007 trial brought down his own brother, South Side crew boss Frank (Frankie Breeze) Calabrese, Outfit acting boss Jimmy Marcello and Outfit consigliere Joey (The Clown) Lombardo. Marcello, 79, is the only one still alive, serving out a life sentence as a guest of the federal government.

Calabrese did do alot of damage in the end....but he was a killer also back in the day....lets not forget he personally had a role in the double homicide of the Spilotro Bros....
RIP Nicky.

I have to say, I've been impressed with and enjoyed the amount of Chicago content on this board more recently. It's been refreshing.

Keep up the good work, you deep-dish eating Windy City boys!

Only made guy in history to take the stand against the outfit it says. That is unreal.Auippa,Arccado those guys either struck fear or had a huge amount of loyalty over the years for that to be the case. The Outfit has had a good run for sure

The more I have thought about it the fact he is the only made man to take the stand just shows the breed of gangster that made up the Outfit.Cerone,Auippa,Joe Batters,Tocco,Alderisio.Ferriola,Marcello, the list is long these were some true gangsters who took it on the chin when it came crashing down on them and did their time

He’s lucky as fuck to have lived till he was 80. The connection within the US Marshals left his fingerprints on his file and that’s how that plan fell apart.

Chicago is interesting. You dont hear much about them and I wonder how strong they are compared to Philly today? I would imagine NY is the strongest because they have 5 families but Chicago was very strong.

Frankie Jr. Saved himself by promoting himself through the media in my honest opinion. If he would have gone into hiding like Nick did, more than likely I do believe he would have been whacked. The mob really couldn't do anything to him considering everyone would trace it back to them since he was being so vocal about not hiding from them. The guys he fucked over are all dead anyway so its not like anyone is coming after him anymore to be honest with you. He simply is shelved for life and will never ever be allowed back at the Old Neighborhood Italian American Club on the South Side or anywhere around there. He has even admitted that its not a good idea he goes there ever again. Every friend he ever had from that crew was lost when he became an informant. Even the people from the neighborhood shun that son of a bitch.

Wasn't Nick spotted in Chicago pretty openly within the last couple years? I thought he dropped out of WP. If it wasn't for Frank Jr he wouldn't have testified. Personally I think Jr testified because he knew of many more of Sr's stash spots and figured why not use a get out of free card, put Dad in prison for life and get that $$$. Had to throw Uncle Nick under the bus for the Fecarotta hit. I think the Feds would have agreed to that trade knowingly and willingly. If they could get a made guy to flip they'd gladly let Jr have all the $$$ he could find. He stole almost a million from Sr and Sr didn't notice the money was missing for months when they were both out on the street. If he had that kind of cash in a stash spot, he had a ton more. Plus the hundreds of thousands and jewels they "found" behind the wall in the basement of his house after he went to prison for Life after the trial. I'd like to hear more from the other Calabrese brother, not Jr who acts like he's some victim and never wanted to be involved in the life.

His brother Kurt has verbally admitted that Frank Jr. is dead to him.

Frank Jr. was no victim. He was a pussy who wanted to be involved in the life but once he got addicted to coke and stole all his dads money he got scared and then turned on his father to save his own ass. If I was one of those crazy motherfuckers in prison for life and no possibility of parole and he ended up there I'd make Whitey Bulger's beating look humane. I'm sure there is someone locked up who would love to do it.

Frank JR is a despicable human being. Obviously, his dad was no saint but to steal millions of dollars and then turn around and rat on him is so fucked. The book he wrote on Family Secrets was hard for me to get through simply because the idea of a son doing that to his father is deplorable.

Frank Sr. was the devil incarnate himself! A heartless, remorseless, animal. (Without a doubt.) Nick was not far behind him. And Frank Jr. was a complete weasel.

So as far as the three of them go...its no loss, whatsoever, to planet Earth!

News today is saying it was a mysterious death.

Was he finally whacked in the end? Its up to you to decide....

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crim...af5364a48742d6b9ebb9b1f2c3bbcc&ei=17

*** Update.......

I am a little bit annoyed I guess.

Article claims a mysterious death and then it says it had nothing to do with a gangland hit? Thats interesting to say the least.

Oh well , just read the article anyway and leave your thoughts.
