They have created a fiefdom of the 'Ndrangheta in Lombardy, trial at the start - .
LOCAL about 19 hours agoREPORT

February 21, 2023

The abbreviated trial for Cosimo Maiolo, alleged boss of the restaurant in Pioltello, in the Milanese area, and, among others, for his three sons, Salvatore, Antonio and Omar, for his ten-year-old younger brother, Damiano and for his nephew Giovanni will open in April in Milan.. The various charges are mafia-type criminal association, electoral coercion, drug trafficking, attempted extortion, attempted murder and other crimes all aggravated by the mafia method. The defendants, a dozen in all, were arrested last December as part of an investigation coordinated by the prosecutor of the DDA Paolo Storari and conducted by the State Police.

Undisputed fiefdom of the 'Ndrangheta in Lombardy
According to the reconstruction of the investigators in the municipality in the province of Milan, the Maiolo-Manno families, related to each other, would have constituted an undisputed fiefdom, headed by Cosimo Maiolo, 58, who has already ended up in prison in the historic blitz "Crimine-Infinito" of 2010, sentenced to over 11 years, with sentence served and special surveillance in progress. The investigation, in addition to having dealt a serious blow to a clan of the 'Ndrangheta that allegedly provided support to a candidate for mayor, unelected, from the centre-right in Pioltello, highlighted how the criminal organization has operated both in the "classic" forms, such as drug trafficking, weapons, requests for protection money, intimidation and usury, and with the more sophisticated ones such as entrepreneurial infiltration , with the creation of "manpower tanks" and "business" on the transport of corpses in the midst of the pandemic, and the pollution of electoral competitions. Prosecutor Storari had requested and obtained immediate proceedings, after which the 10 defendants chose the abbreviated procedure. ( handle )

Milan's level of danger is moderate. Milan is remarkably less criminal than Rome , Naples , Paris , Toulouse , Barcelona or London.
But like any big city there are certain neighborhoods where tourists should not come.

I'm agree, Milan was by far more violent in the 1970s and 1980s than today; the worst neighborhoods like Quarto Oggiaro or Barona are still heavily populated by southern italians

Back then most notorious was Comasina, now it's a nice district with pizzerias, trattorias and bars frequented by many students from the nearby Università. Many young people.

How involved are the Ultras from Curva Sud (AC Milan) and Curva Nord (Inter Milan) with the city's organized crime?

I know that Inter's leader was recently killed and Milan's leader was arrested on drug trafficking charges.

But are the Ultras used just as foot soldiers or is there a possibility that they hold actual weight due to the size of the Ultras? The younger ones follow the older ultras blindly.
