Gang Bust in New York

Gang Bust in New York - 01/28/23 07:03 PM

13 members of the Trinitarious gang are said to have been arrested, although one guy does not seem Spanish. Drug and gun running are among the alleged crimes. The unusual aspect is that to arrest these 13 police they had to raid 10 places, breaking into stores and buildings. Seems like a lot of places to raid for only 13 gang members.

Trinitarios move a lot of dope.

Ñetas is the Puerto Rican gang. They're still around and still making money, but they're not that huge of a presence on the US mainland these days. Ñeta connected drug busts still show up in places like Camden or North Philly every once in a while though. Lots of Ñeta activity in Puerto Rico though, where they are the number one gang in prisons.
The Latin Kings Bloodline/East Coast faction has a lot of Puerto Rican recruitment, but by no means it's a Puerto Rican-only gang. Most LK's in New England and Philly seem to be Puerto Rican, but in NYC it's a bit more mixed. In NYC some Puerto Ricans also tend to join Bloods sets.

Trinitarios must have become more professional, because the area where this bust takes place - Washington Heights - definitely doesn't seem to be the open air drug market it used to be anymore. Still plenty of gang activity of course, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was from the 80's to the mid 2000's. Looks like gentrification is starting to come to that area as well.

I never knew about the Neta's, I have to look into them. I notice that the gentrified areas are full of very left-leaning people who are so worried about being seen as racist they are hesitant to try to do anything (Complain to community board, or even say anything to friends) about gang activity. There are areas that will also always stay the same, even grow bigger due to illegal immigration.
