ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A New York mobster who killed three people and attempted to kill two others has escaped from federal custody after recently being moved to a halfway house, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Dominic Taddeo, a hit man from a Rochester-area crime family, escaped on March 28, according to the Bureau of Prisons website.

Taddeo, 64, had been imprisoned at a medium-security lockup in Florida before being transferred to a residential halfway house, also in Florida, in February.

Taddeo failed to return from an authorized medical appointment and “was placed on escape status” on Monday, a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson said.

This makes no sense

How many years did this guy do?

he is months away from getting out from the halfway house and he runs?

he probably turns up in a hospital somewhere or something like that
Maybe he is dead and they just dont know it yet

or something like that

What do you mean?
Every prisoner has the option to finish out the last 6 months to a year in a halfway house.

Its a way of slowing introducing the inmate back to life on the outside.

He was a hitter for the Mafia and gets out after serving half his term. People have done more time for marijuana possession than his multiple murders and attempted murders. I mean, if you want this guy for your neighbor that's your call. He should rot in his cell.

He wasn't a bad guy, he was just a bit misunderstood.

And I hear he maintains one helluva tomato and pepper garden. A real "green thumb."

Interesting to see Taddeo’s escape get so much national and even international coverage. Seeing this everywhere from the front page of CNN and Fox to the Canadian news wire. Probably the most reporting done on Rochester’s LCN family in at least 30 years.

Taddeo pleaded guilty in January 1992 to the shooting deaths of three people in 1982 and 1983, and also for twice attempting to fatally shoot a mob leader and plotting to kill another mob figure, according to the Rochester newspaper Democrat and Chronicle.
In April 1992, the late US District Judge Michael A. Telesca sentenced Taddeo to 24 years in prison, which he was to serve consecutively to the 30 years he was already serving for drug conspiracy, bail jumping and illegal weapons possession, according to the newspaper archive.

Taddeo killed 3 men during the ABC war in Rochester why he didnt get life?

Back then I think they still had parole in the federal system. These days he probably would do the rest of his life.

Serving prison terms consecutively means he would have to finish serving the 30 years, then start serving the 24 years. With the story saying he had year to go before parole he must have locked up since 1982 when the first murders occurred. Why he tried to escape with so little time to go is the bigger mystery.
