Status of The Commission?

Status of The Commission? - 01/05/22 01:52 PM

According to Salvatore Vitale, a Commission meeting was held in early 2000 to restore the rule requiring both parents to be of Italian descent in order to become a made man.[16] The Commission is still reported to exist, though its current membership is composed of only the bosses of the Five Families and the Chicago Outfit.

Instead of a meeting of bosses, underbosses or captains meet secretly to discuss business and govern.[56]

In October 2017, Domenico Violi of the Luppino crime family in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was heard to have been named underboss of the Buffalo crime family on wiretaps; this revealed the activity of The Commission as Violi's promotion was so unusual, being the first Canadian to hold the second-highest position in the American Mafia, that Buffalo crime family boss Joseph Todaro Jr. stated he consulted with The Commission for permission to promote him as Buffalo's new underboss.[57]

I also heard that the commission meets by "proxy" through lower level intermediaries. I never heard anything about the "all Italian" rule being reinstated, sounds far fetched but IDK.

As an aside, I seriously doubt that the government does much, if any, actual "wiretapping" anymore. They just listen in on cell phone conversations and collect location data from cellphones. I heard an FBI agent state that 90% of their information comes from cellphones and social media. It amazes me that people in the criminal world carry a bug, and tracker around with them 24/7, which is exactly what a cellphone is. Worse, they post their lives on public platforms like "instagram" and "facebook". Half these guys are indicted by their own stupidity.

I read og this but for me it was a gesture of Massino's megalomaniac mind. He already tried to change the family name from Bonanno to Massino and for sure wanted to restore the Commission but with all the other bosses in jail was impossible.
Even the full blooded italian sound strange because in 2000 there aas many wannabe that deserved to made but wasnt italian on the mother side.

In Sicily since the 90s it took a very long time for the reconstitution of a new commission only in 2008 there was the attempt to re-establish "Cosa Nostra" in the old style, with a single all-powerful boss. Benedetto Capizzi, a 65-year-old boss from Villagrazia, had been nominated as the possible head of the Commission.
Not everyone agreed, however. Gaetano Lo Presti from the Porta Nuova family objected to the choice of Capizzi as the new head. He committed suicide after his arrest.
After the death of Riina on 17 November 2017, Settimo Mineo was elected the new head on 29 May 2018 until his arrest on 4 December 2018.

I'm finding it hard to believe that all these Mafiosi in Italy are committing suicide, we're talking about proud men here.

I heard by word of mouth here in Toronto that when cosimo commissos nephew was killed he went to “New York” to talk to people there for help, but they told him no because they ripped other groups off in the first place (caruana cuntreras). Not sure if by New York they meant Buffalo but it was more inferred that it was nyc. Again who knows how true this actually is just something I heard.
