I don't think they will ever stop going after him, he may die of natural causes, but in prison.

He has apparently surrounded himself with a bunch of real stand-up men. But there is always a possibility that the government may be able to turn one someday.

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/26/21 02:18 PM

This goes to show you that LCN is still the top dog in American gangland. The government feels like the Mafia is still a threat, that's why they will give the lowest of the low their freedom in exchange for helping them bring down a Mafia family. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that they would allow a multiple child-molesting, baby killer go to bring down the mob. And finally, to really really drive my point home, when was the last time they offered such deals to any Crips, or Aryan Brotherhood members? Exactly, the government doesn't feel threatened by shitbag gangs like that, they will all rot in jail regardless of what they know or are willing to tell. LCN may not have the power and influence they once had, but the potential is still there. That's one thing they have over every other gang in America, not to mention they've been here since since the 1860s at the earliest and the 1880s at the latest. Most of these other groups are Johnny-come-latelys.

It doesn’t prove anything other than the Mafia makes good news and headlines in my opinion. And that in turn gets more money and promotions for the agents making the busts. As long as I’ve been on this site a majority of posters, past or present refuse to give Merlino his rightful credit. The guys not stupid, he’s fearless and he’s so far avoided the rats that most posters so called real gangsters didn’t avoid. He deserves his place on the list of top bosses in this half century

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/26/21 08:37 PM

What a stupid comment, so they let multiple killers go free for headlines? I agree that they want headlines and more funding and promotions, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they will NEVER give such deals to members of the Aryan Brotherhood, Crips, Gangster Disciples, or any other gang. It shows more than anything that they will stoop to any level to take down the mob, if they really had the mob on the ropes as much as they claim, there would be no need for such nonsense. They could simply just lock everyone up for life, and wouldn't need their rats.

They don’t give those deals to the other groups because convicting them doesn’t advance they’re careers the same way that convicting the Cosa Nostra does..AB and LaEme just don’t generate the same career advancement and headlines for Law Enforcemen. Remember at the end of the day both sides are just made up of humans and all that comes with that

100%. Since he got out in 2011 the only they were able to convict him of was placing a bet over the phone.... ridiculous that he even got 16 months for that....

Dilly, just wondering why when you disagree you comment as if you're definitively right? It must be boring knowing everything.

Louie, hopefully you go the way of ColonelReb, along with all the other trolls who are just here to pick keyboard fights. There's still a few of you left.

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/27/21 09:54 PM

If the govt had enough evidence to bring it to court to get him even 5 years they would bring it. Because they could always build a case for murders while he’s doing a small bit....I don’t think they’re ever gonna be able to get someone like Rubeo to get near him again, all the tapes haven’t come out but I don’t even think Persiano got anything on him...

Not when you're stupid enough to drive around in a Rolls Royce...

Philly isn't killing anybody though, they're not smart enough to commit crimes to get a racketeering charge and are basically reduced to shylocking and bookmaking...

The feds aren't gonna waste time on those crimes...But when you're stupid enough to drive a RR, they just might

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/28/21 01:41 AM

Driving around in a Rolls Royce means nothing, I could see if he had a fleet of Rolls Royces. Is it even in his name? It could "belong" to a successful legitimate businessman. Or how do we know that Merlino doesn't have enough legitimate income to justify it? These are questions you should be thinking about before you go assuming that a case can be made against him just because of what he's driving around in.

Lol...Is that how you think the feds see it ??

Sure he's got legit income, even he's not stupid enough to open himself up to that...

I'm sure he also inherited a lot of money from his father's rackets and even today from his own very minor rackets...

Rumor has it, he did some work back in the day...Anybody with a head on his shoulders would lay low, enjoy your proceeds with your family and move on...

Only a fool would drive around in a RR while agents are driving rent a cars..

The kid may have grown up with street smarts and not book smarts? There are still people that are around like that.

Merlino is not pulling a John Gotti, so the feds have no major incentive to go all out on him. That doesn't mean they are not watching him. Also keep in mind priorities are a lot different now, but the feds dont forget those guy. After Florida, Merlino should lay a little lower, and driving around in a RR doesn't put a target on your back, it is when you have a garage full of expensive cars that does. I dont see anyone killing Joey Merlino anytime soon, sure there are guys mad at him in is own family and other families, but not enough to kill him as he is not stepping on anyone's toes. He will die of old age and will be locked up again, but not sentence to life unless he is given a 25 year sentence in his 80s.

If I'm in my 70s or 80s at that point I don't think I'd care where I die.

By the time they are dying it''s usually their family such as grandkids who want to have them home to die. A few who were made to die in prison probably were so drugged up or suffering from Alzheimers they had no idea where they even were. I think Persico may have been like that.
Posted By: DillyDolly

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/29/21 05:08 PM

No actually, I think Persico didn't give a fuck. And from photos I've seen, he didn't have it too bad in there. Had lots of freedom, he apparently had enough freedom to participate in a mob war in NYC from a prison in California.

Servidio get 15 years for drug trafficking. Philly is active but not during yhe Scarfo era.

Re: Merlino Poll - 12/29/21 07:07 PM

Long sentences for drug trafficking is nothing new, even in the mob's so-called heyday, you could find mob-connected drug traffickers getting hefty sentences. The DiPalermo brothers, Giovanni Ormento, Camillo Galante, and many many others. The difference these days is that there are just far fewer LCN members today than back then.
