Mafia mansions to mob hovels...Lets take a look! - 03/16/21 03:58 PM

From boss Frank Costellos's sprawling multi-acre mansion in exclusive Sands Points, Long Island, to capo 'Joe Beck' DiPalermo's hovel of an apartment in a dilapidated Little Italy building, built back in 1902, where mob guys lived and hung their fedoras have run the gamut from the most pristine residences, to the worst shit-boxes one could imagine.

....Coming soon!

I'd like to point out that if they weren't able to pay it off it don't count. It's inexcusable and pathetic for anyone with a ton of money coming in to not pay off their house at least before they die.

Why would you pay off something that the gov easily knows exists and could end up seizing? Not to mention anybody who wants to look like a legit citizen should have a mortgage.

I agree, I've also thought about this and pondered this myself. Good point.

This is definitely worth a discussion in and of itself while we're on the topic.

I read somewhere that when they did a "biopsy" of Anastasia's pockets at the barber shop, they found a letter that he was behind on his mortgage. I'll try to find it later.

I absolutely REFUSE to believe that he couldn't pay his mortgage, even if he was behind. I'm not doubting he was behind, but I don't believe it was because he couldn't pay it. What do you think? Anyone?

No shit he could afford his mortgage. I was saying that there is an article that mentions the contents of his pocket and that was listed in it. I found it funny because that house cost $100k when he had it built. He's the Fucking boss. Was. I spent a couple hours today trying to find that damn article.

There was a goodfella when I was a little kid. My father took me to see him at his apartment in NYC's Little Italy. I don't remember the exact street. Maybe Mulberry, or Elizabeth. I remember we parked off the corner, he lived a few doors down from the corner. Off Broome Street I think it was.

It was one of those old time tenement buildings. It was a real shit-box from the outside. A real nothing building.

But when we walked inside, it was a Roman palace. I couldn't even believe how beautiful it was. He had taken 2 floors of the building and made like a duplex out of it, if you will.

He had renovated the entire 2 floors. Front to back. up and down. Expensive furniture, all modern appliances. etc.

You would think he lived like a pauper. But in reality, he lived quiet well. And he remained in the neighborhood because that was his area.

He was a real old-timer, an old man already, with the Genovese crew. Only a soldier (I think). But a very, very, respected guy. revered in fact. I'm sure he was a millionaire many times over. Yet he didn't even own a car.

Thats how a lot of the original guys were. They never flashed

That doesn't mean he couldn't pay it, just that he wasn't paying it.

I wonder what some of those cost back then? The Sands Point Long island home may have been comparatively inexpensive to what it would go for today. I think Vito Genovese had an inexpensive home in the country, away from New York.
