The Mob "On The Waterfront"

The Mob "On The Waterfront" - 09/10/20 09:41 AM

One of the most "mobbed-up" industries in the New York/New Jersey area has always been the waterfront. The millions in easy revenue just waiting to be plucked from the tree was tailor-made for the underworld. And some of the most notorious mafiosi and racketeers this country has ever seen honed their extortionate skills on the docks.

From Socks Lanza, Black Mike Clemente and Alex the Ox DeBrizzi, to Vito Genovese himself.... It was "Mafia Central"

Let's take a look shall we?

@NYMafia would like to see possible articles on Carmine DeSapio's connections to Costello and Lucchese, the Mafia's involvement in Wall Street scams, and of course, the construction industry in NYC.

Funny you should ask that. I wondered that myself. But I don't think they did. At least not to any great extent. Their is little documentation of it at any rate. It wasn't a focus of their obviously for whatever reason

I have almost 20 projects in the hopper for the future. But I agree, Carmine DeSapio was an intriguing figure in NY politics. A half a mafioso himself,

I would like to do something on him. Maybe in the future ok. I actually have a bit of personal knowledge about him and his time in prominence that I will include if I ever do a bit on him.

The philly mob never had control of the philly ports. Aside from some stolen containers here and there, nada. The ILA in Philly is not mob run.

They probably did, just not a significant presence like the New York City Families had.

I can't imagine being that close to the piers and not having any juice at all along the docks. If only through their "compare" in the New York City ILA locals when a favor was needed.
