Gambino not Colombo gallo. I hope I’m not repeating this request if so sorry. But seems there’s not a lot about him known. At least by me anyway. Anyone with info? His rackets, associates? Crew he came up with? I realize he must have close to Carlo gambino but did they operate together as young members? Related? Was he an earner or muscle? Close to Neil?

He had his hands in every pie I read. Also could have took over as boss when carlo died. He had the family's support but didnt want the job. I think Neil's in jail at this time to 76. He had trucks in the garment. Of course he has gambling loan sharking. He must of had a few construction companies paying him. Crazy part his son still was selling dope when his father is probaly the most powerful mobster in nyc in the 70tys besides gambino

Joseph N. Gallo was a VERY low key mafioso who was said to have been a top assassin as a young man. He supposedly traveled around the country clipping guys as instructed. He came up under Mangano/Anastasia but I'm not sure who he was close to.

Lived in Astoria, Queens for many decades and was elevated by Gambino when he ascended to the throne. He was just a well respected soldier before that.

He also oversaw the Baltimore, MD regime of capo Frank Corbi for years.

Very low key but "serious" guy.

PS: a very little known fact is that for many years Joe Gallo had a skin disorder. It would affect his hands so in the 1950s-1960s you would often see him out at a bar wearing thin white gloves. He'd shake your hand while wearing them. I don't know if he was a germ nut or what. But I was told by my family that when they'd meet him and say hello he had them on on more than one occasion.

Until he fell during the Gotti era like all the others who stayed affiliated with Gotti, Gallo lived a pretty good life.

I believe he held garment district interests and was very close to Carlo Gambino for years. He was his Consigliere. well respected guy

In fact Gallo has a son by the same name who became a wiseguy. Wealthy fella. Did a big bit as a young guy for babania I believe but now is very stable.

It's a testament to his smarts that he maintains a very low key status. He came from good stock

Yes. He lived on the North Shore. Garment firm owner, and well respected......his fathers son after all

Re: Joe gallo - 08/08/20 04:20 PM

Another thing.

He went along with the John Gotti's plan to take out Castellano. I don't think he supported it; but he knew about it.

Castellano and Gallo must have not been all that close in their later years.

Big paul wouldn't help his son out with the drug case and the sr was pissed

Re: Joe gallo - 08/08/20 04:43 PM

Something like that. Joe gallon sr ended up indicted in a separate case like carmine persico trying to bribe a fake parole agent into giving his son a prison transfer and went at it without big Paul's ok and got him almost shelved

Re: Joe gallo - 08/08/20 05:10 PM

There's alot of pics of gotti and gallon. Think there was a lot of respect there. Queens guys to. Dont think there was any other mafia guy bigger in queens then gallon during that time period. I read in joe dogs book gallon liked young chicks and liked to have a good time.

@Pmac.

Technically; Could Gallo have become boss once Bilotti and Castellano got killed?

He was the highest ranking guy in the family at the time.

Re: Joe gallo - 08/08/20 08:18 PM

Gallon could have been boss after carlo died I've read he passed. He could have been boss like your saying but he knew gotti was the choice. Think he was content in his position. When carlo dies in Oct 76 Neil's in prison. Big paul is acting boss. He could have been boss if he wanted but again seemed content with consig.

Gallo keeps getting auto corrected to gallon

Re: Joe gallo - 08/08/20 09:02 PM

Joe Gallo was close to Gambino captain Jospeh "Joe Piney" Armone. IT's through Joe Piney that John Gotti got Gallo's support in his plot against Castellano.

Malavita, interesting. I always wondered why he went along with the gotta move. Makes sense

Re: Joe gallo - 08/09/20 12:05 AM

@Malavita

Joe N Gallo didnt support the revolt against Paul Castellano; but he did go along with it and stay quiet.

I think he knew he was a old man and most likely didn't want to be whacked either.

Gallo was in charge of the family in the couple of weeks between Castellano's assassination and Gotti's election to boss

Makes sense. There was no Boss or Underboss in that transition period "Officially". Gallo was the highest ranking guy at the time. Didn't he get all the captains in line?

His son was the main Gambino guy in the garment game in New York and New Jersey in the 90s and 2000s

Re: Joe gallo - 08/10/20 05:56 AM

Gallo was a capo under Gambino until the 1960s. He was also A lot closer to Neil dellacroce than Gambino and Castellano. He almost took over the family when Carl got sick in the early 70s but Paul Castellano became Acting Boss
