Out of the 20 there is 5 still alive out of which who is still active.
Who in the Bonanno family would still have any connections to these 5?

Speaking of the Bonanno’s, I think too many people forget how much of a true gangster Vinny Basciano was/ is. Total gangster.

He's in for life in Colorado no.
How og he is was seems irrelevant.
Unless yer saying he had broad connections across all oc.
But he didn't nor does he have any influence anymore anywhere so Vinny was ab for less than a year he is a footnote.

I asked on another thread if the Rizzutos held any making ceremonies in Canada. With most, if not all, being Italian born, I wonder now how many were made in Italy and transferred/immigrated. Canada is a hard one to figure out.

I have struggled with this question for years and reached out to James Dubro, Peter Edwards, and some cops I know who have worked on OC in Canada and not one person seems to have a concrete, definite answer. Frankly, I don't think that answer exists for public consumption. The only people who know are not going to tell you.

All I have been able to ascertain is that there is definitely a "made status" in Canada; but whether that comes as a result of the traditional sword and the gun and the burning saint card, or whether it is a process more like what I gather has in the past been Chicago's, where you are more or less verbally told that you have attained the status, I don't know.

I suspect it may depend on which faction you have arrived at the family in. I would bet that most of the zips coming over from the other side may have been made over there, negating the requirement. Those who have arrived in the family through a Bonanno-backed faction, be it all the way back to the Cotroni era, Vito, possibly through Sal Montagana and all the way up to Damiano Zummo's November 2015 ceremony would suggest that the Bonanno faction guys still play out the ceremony.

Whether or not any of the Rizzuto-era Montreal born guys were actually conducted through a ceremony by Vito or his father is up for debate.

If I had to give it my best guess, I would bet that Nick and/or Vito did carry out a handful of ceremonies over the years; if for no other reason to eliminate the distinction that would exist between those who did have the ceremony - and we know at least some did through these other factions - and those who did not. Another point that would auger in favour of the suggestion is going back to the 1999 meeting the OP mentions when Sal Vitale asked Vito directly about how many "made" members in Montreal - would this not suggest that Montreal had been delegated (or perhaps simply took upon itself) some authority to make its' own members? If not, why wouldn't the Bonannos already know who was made in Montreal? Why even ask a question to which you should presumably know the answer? One could argue that Sal was testing Vito's honesty, but then surely Vito would have known that Sal ought to have known who the members were, in which case how would he get away with any lie? Besides, the way that meeting went, it was more along the lines of Sal coming cap in hand, hoping to smooth over the murder of Gerlando Sciascia, than coming up there to interrogate Vito.

A further thought to bear in mind; the "20 of us" answer Vito provided to Vitale is our only reference point, and who is even to say whether that number is accurate? It's a little suspicious/convenient that it is such a nice, neat, round number. Almost would seem more believable to me if it had been 23 guys, or 31, or 15. Given the overall tone of that meeting, it's a distinct possiibility that Vito had neither of the motive or inclination to provide Vitale with honest answers.

Read the Springfield crew of the genovese would induct guys up in mass. With just the crew. Think it wAs felix who said the capo and all the soldiers in there crew just picked a house and did it with NYC's ok. Also how fusco was made. Another anthony a was invited to the bronx. So I say this just because it's been happening for along time a capo gets permission and can just run it themselves.
