Waterfront Guys - 05/15/20 12:30 PM

during the Golden Era (1940s-1960s), did each famiily have representatives on the waterfronts, if so who and who carried the most weight?
I know Tough Tony Anastasio (of the Gambinos) and Joseph "Socks" Lanza (of the Genoveses) but who else was around?

Big Mike Clemente of the Genovese was big on the east side docks

Why wasn't Tough Tony Anastasio whacked? His brother Albert got that treatment.

They should've, didn't be end up being an informer? I think he didn't get whacked because Gambino assumed he would understand why his brother was whacked. He held the power of the waterfront, but the mad hatter was boss and the guy with all the power behind him.

I don't think Don Carlo was bloodthirsty without reason. It was probably no need to clip Tough Tony, he was a earner and maintained power. I believe Tony Scotto took over that racket after Anastasio died and business keeps going. thats Cosa Nostra.

Any Luccheses, Bonannos or Colombo Waterfront Guys?

I worked some temp jobs on the re-purposed piers on the west side and they are unironically still controlled by the ILA, which I though was interesting.

One of Clemenbte's old piers: https://pier36nyc.com/

Probably he knew how to act would be my guess. No threats of vengeance, no trying to find who did it.

I believe the Genovese had a real presence on the Hudson County New Jersey docks. Those docks are condos now as far as I know.

It's not good business to clip guys for trivial reasons. By just whacking the main target, people get the understanding that you're not a tyrant and can be level-headed. (think Gaspipe Casso or Nicky Scarfo) Guys get worried is the Boss is too trigger happy
